Cranberries grow wildly in bogs, however, they are not grown in flood fields; the fields are flooded with a half foot at harvest time. The berries are removed from the vines by a machine and the ripe berries float to the top of the water and are then easily collected.

Cranberries are harvested in water because when they are good enough to eat they will float to the top of the water.

To avoid damage to the cranberries the plants are flooded and then a machine agitates the water so they come loose from the plant. Then they float to the top and are harvested.
