I checked the Sony website and it says that the PS3 is backwards compatible with Metal Gear Solid 3:Snake Eater, but when I put my disc in, it shows the disc as "Unsupported Data"

Alright, I'm screwed. Thanks guys...I wish the a$$hole that sold me the system would have told me that. I have the 40G system.

Which version of the PS3 do you have? If you have the 20, 60, or 80 gb version, then you probably need the latest update.

If you have the 40 gb version, then you're screwed. The 40 gb version can't play PS2 games.

Make sure that your PS3 is updated to the latest software version and try to put in MGS 3 again and see if it works.

Also, I'm guessing that you either have the 20GB, 60GB, or 80GB PS3 because the 40GB PS3 isn't backward compatible with PS2 games.

man, you're screw because the 40gb ps3 cannot play ps2 games, only ps1 games. 20gb and 60gb ps3 are fully backward compatible by using hardware. 80gb ps3 can play most ps1 and ps2, because they are using software.
