hi people,
was looking for some new tyres online for my 2003 passat estate, punched in my reg number and many websites came back with 2 different sizes, 195/65/15 or 205/60/15, i got the 195 fitted at the mo, but does it mean i can fit 205's on the same wheel? confused...

I wouldn't .

It will alter your speedo somewhat. If you have all wheel drive, get 4 identical tyres or risk your differentials and trans. These VW/Audi's are very sensitive to tyres.

You could if you wanted. This is only a very small change in size so issues with your speedo or the tyre rubbing on something shouldn't be a problem.

But I don't really see why you'd want to. The 205's will be a bit more expensive and you're not really gaining anything from it.

Also, if you have 2 different size tyres on the one axle, you'll fail an MOT.

simple answer, if you are just replacing the one tyre then NO, as the tyre will be different size to the one on the other side of the axle and that is illegal, it doesn't matter about the front and back you can have 10 inch wheel on the front and 22 inch on the back if they fit, but you have to have the same size on the same axle.

if you do change one axle then i would then consider Your spare as it will be different so you would need 2.

best option, look at the best tyres in both those sizes and see which are the cheapest, and go for them. obviously the 205, would be better as they are wider and the lower profile will help with handling it will be unnoticeable amount tho

by the way theres 7.5 mill difference between both tyre standing side by side, the 205's being 7.5mm smaller

No Means NO They will not fit on your car period. The difference is the PROFILE- 45 vs 60 That means the tire height is 45 or 60 percent of the tread width(225) in millimeters. This rubs on suspension/body work and throws the speedo so far out of whack you would never know how fast or far you go or went. ASE Cert Auto Tech since 1978, 2003 GLI 225/45-17

The different widths is the only difference, however you will need two spare tyres as you will be unable to fit different tyres to the same axle. The wider tyre will probably be better in the dry and wet but will be hopeless in snow just like the wide tyres fitted to the Chelsea Tractors.

Either will fit.

The 195 or 205 is the width of the tire in millimeters.
The 65 or 60 is the aspect ratio of the height of the tire to the width of the tire.
15 is the wheel diameter in inches.
The overall diameter is (195mm x 0.65 x 2) + 15".

I would suggest the 195/65R15 tires: they will provide better fuel economy, better wet weather handling and braking.

The 205/60R15 tires will provide slightly better dry handling and braking, with a negative impact on fuel economy.

No, the different sizes are for different wheel options that came with the Passat in 2003. The wheel you have will only fit 195s.
