Sorry....But the only people that would agree with you are people that have little or no experience firing muzzle loading rifles.Despite the ability of Modern Sabots to shoot longer ranges with more accuracy, there is no way a 12 gauge Sabot Slug will out-perform a 50 caliber muzzleloader at comparable ranges...East Coast West Coast, North or South, doesn't matter....Fact...

Overall a slug is much more efficient at harvesting Deer than Buckshot. Buckshot, even magnum loads have greatly restricted ranges vs a slug that can be effective out to 100 yards or more depending on the gun, type, gauge, and style of slug you are shooting. Without question or reservation I recommend you use a slug that will provide you the most accuracy out of your specific shotgun.

As others have said, the .50 will out-peform almost any slug gun. The only way I would get the shot gun is if I hunted other things that I couldn't use the muzzle loader for (ex...turkey, quail)

Both are good. But where I hunt it is open fields. Most of my shots will be from 25-175 yds. Depends what route the deer cross. So my choice is the 50 cal. I shoot 249 gr. powerbelt hollowpoints and can keep a 3.5 in group at 150 yds.

I don't shot muzzle loaders so I can't comment on their performance but I do use a 12 gauge with a rifled barrel for deer and moose and it works vary well. As for "no body's" answer don't knock hunting with rifles, shot guns, and muzzle loaders, just because it's not your style you don't have too discriminate. We are all hunters here, we use the tools we are most comfortable with.
And "MS" you should only need one shot, If it takes you more then you shouldn't be a hunter

Haha me too! i was gonna hunt today cuz it was the last day of hunting season but i had the stomach flu! xD :(
and idk, i don't really like using muzzle loaders because they're a hassle to load. but a 12 ga. vs. a .50?... i think you're better off using the muzzleloader because it's a little more accurate then a shotgun.

The 12 gauge with slugs is a better weapon, and can be reloaded much faster. Plus, you get more than 1 shot.
