Okay I have my engagement ring and was looking at it one day and noticed initials FDJ on the inner band. We didn't get it engraved and don't know what it stands for. Do you think that this was someone elses ring and returned it and Jared Jewelers then they went around and sold it to us. Wouldn't they have to tell you that before you bought the ring? I'm kinda mad about this. What do you guys think?

Thanks everyone for your answers! To clarify a few things no it's not from a pawn shop, I actually was with him when we were looking at rings. It is just one of the makers that Jared's carries. At least it isn't someone elses ring. haha Oh yea and to answer someone elses question, we did recieve the certificate with the diamond and everything. But thanks again for all the great answers!

FDJ stands for Fairmont Diamond Jewels....Does this Jared place carry this line of jewelry? It's a trade of jewelry...did your ring come with a diamond certificate? Go directly to the Jeweler and inquire, if you are uneasy with the whole situation! It's your ring afterall!! But remember that regardless, the intention by which the ring was given to you is what is of utmost importance not the cost or where the ring came or was bought from....sentiments of love are priceless!

My ring has some small engraving on the inside (And it's a beautiful Blue Nile ring) that just gives information about the type of metal it is...if you're concerned though, take it back to Jared's and have them look at it.
However, jewelry stores don't usually take back jewelry that's been engraved so you shouldn't have to worry.

It's probably an engraving from the company that made it. Even if companies take back engraved jewelry they get rid of the engraving. I doubt that they resold someone else's jewelry to you. If you're concerned take it to the jewelers and ask them what it stands for. The inside of my engagement ring says "14K" because it's 14 karat white gold.

I have a promise ring and it says FDJ from Jared too. Both my sister and I got them and we both have FDJ engraved in it. You're fine, and it was brand new.

I have just googled for "FDJ jewelry" and FDJ appears to be a company that makes tools for the jewelry industry. There are many markings required on precious metals (hallmarks, purity etc), all different for different countries. I think that what you have is a manufacturer's mark indicating the tools used in its creation.

J is not a common letter to start a last name. they probably got it from a jeweler that went out of business and put the mark on all their jewelry.. Fort Dixon Jewelers or something like that.. but I would ask the people at the store since clearly it bothers you

Different types of metals have different engravings on the inside of the band. If it's 14 karat gold, it probably has "14K" in the inside. If it's sterling silver, it usually has "925" on the inside. That's just like a tag in a shirt. Don't worry.

Sounds like its a marking to indicate a brand or a style of the ring. My husband's band says "Diana" because it's made by a company named Diana.

take it back and ask the people who sold you the ring. if its engraved big enough than yeah it probably was returned....although i dont think you can return anything that has already been engraved. check it out though.
