"That notion that things can just get changed is scary for a lot of people who worry that a church with a very strong authority center could influence a public leader by suddenly getting a new revelation that has an impact on public policy." This was said by Rev. Mouw, of the Southern Baptist church, about the LDS church, and having a Mormon in the Oval Office. My question is, what revelation could POSSIBLY impact public policy to THIS degree? I don't know what revelation could possibly be this important?

Do you have any ideas?

You know it's all about the drama... I suppose they fear that polygamy could make a comeback, or some such thing...

I'd rather have a mormon than a southern baptist in the white house.

Edit: I've seen this question asked here before, and I've never seen anyone come up with a competent answer... you realize (even thought I'm an atheist) this is a particulalry good question...

I am LDS and it is hard to imagine that there are people who act like this Rev. (if true) in the year 2007! For all of the supposed tolerance that exists in the US, this typical behavior towards the LDS church is truly astounding.

The church has an official policy of political nuetrality so, while it may take a moral stance, it will also stay out of politics, like it has for years. Even if some miraculous revelation took place, the founding fathers also created checks and balances to prevent one single entity from ursurping too much power. Mitt Romney would simply not have the power to change life as we know it. Congress can't agree on anything these days, do you think that they are going to pass something if Romney walks in and says he has had a revelation?

As far as revelations are concerned, things like the second coming of the Savior and all of the interesting things predicted in Revelations, will probably not come via the White House.

Let's exercise some common sense here.

I don't get why it is such a big deal. It isn't like the president alone makes policy. Congress does have a say in the matter. As does the Supreme Court. Geez...I wish people would actually figure out how our country is run. It isn't like anyone is afraid to throw around the "I" word anymore...(Impeachment) The Church believes in separation of power...the presidency of the Church will take care of the Church...the president of the United States takes care of the United States.

Considering already availably mormon revelation about upholding the US Constitution and political neutrality of the Church. i dont think its possible.

The Church usually doesnt move through political routes to accomplish things. It works by convincing people to do the right things. People are always more important than politics.
