i drink honey tea (honey in hot water). if you're getting laryngitis though it will just go away, but drinking honey tea will sooth your throat and make you feel better... PLUS it taste good!!

A hoarse voice is usually the predominant symptom of laryngitis, inflammation of the vocal cords (or chords, either spelling is correct.) Laryngitis is usually caused by a viral infection, but bacteria can sometimes be the cause. Overuse can also cause inflammation, say by cheering the Dolphins, Lions or Bengals to victory. Laryngeal irritation can be caused by certain fumes and by smoking.

Hoarseness is also caused by polyps on the larynx, sometimes caused by the human papilloma virus. Also by pressure on the recurrent laryngeal nerve.

Throat lozenges or gargling may ease the pain. Tincture of time and elixir of patience usually do the rest.

An important rule of thumb: if your laryngitis lasts more than two weeks, see your doctor, even if you are not a smoker.
