Depends. True high quality vodka will have a smell so slight that it can hardly be detected. Cheap vodka will have impurities in it and can be smelled from a mile away.
Even if it has no smell ethanol still burns the nostrils when inhaled and is detectable by your olfactory senses.

A good quality Vodka would not smell. Vodka does not give off the same fouls smell off your mouth as other drinks do.

It's not TRUE!
Many people say this, because Vodka does not have a 'strong' smell in the bottle.
Its' just as FALSE as saying, "You can drink all the alcohol you like and won't get sick, so long as you don't MIX colors" ..ie: Vodka, White Rum or Gin......Compared to drinking Vodka then switching to Burbon. I don't suggest you try it, EITHER way that is.
Also, If you're gonna drink, Drink in moderation and if you're gonna drink, don't drive, you might spill it! ;-)

I worked a temp job once and worked with a girl who had a big 32 oz water bottle filled with what I think was Vodka... You could certainly smell it...And I worried that whole day that someone would think I was the one drinking it...Needless to say I was only there the one day...
BUT to answer your question YES you can smell it!

vodka cant be smelled very well. your best bet though is peppermint schnapps. then you will smell like the holidays!
