Just exactly which religion are you referring to that makes their followers bury people in the ground? I'm a Pagan and there is no tenet that says how we should be buried. I prefer to be cremated when I die, however people that are buried after death are actually contributing to the earth. There bodies are broken down and the nutrients return to the mother to start the cycle of birth and death all over again. It's the same concept of an animal dying in the woods, their bodies, what's not eaten by carnivores are broken down and return to the earth, providing nutrients and other needed parts to help in the growth of the forest.

I am not religious, but even I can see the sense in burial over cremation. Think of the resources it takes to incinerate a body, not to mention the greenhouse gases it produces. Burial uses natural processes of decay and worm food to convert the body into soil nutrients.

Maybe we enjoy annoying you.
Edit: And you are right. Even Jesus said, "Let the dead bury the dead." Meaning the dead body has no value.
Perhaps your sentiment was the inspiration behind the movie Soylent Green...which if you haven't seen, is a must see. Old, campy b-movie with an interesting view on the future.

I like Fireball's idea about baseball stadiums. We should be able to squeeze about 20 bodies under home plate and about 300 into the infield. Maybe more if we stack them deeper.

Make 'em into Soylent Green, I says.
*Edit* -- Except that if you actually resort to cannibalism, you have to worry about prions. You don't want to get the Kuru.

well, look at it this way. Walmarts, strip malls and parking lots can't be built atop cemeteries and golf courses. at least the grass is green and there's some trees growing.
