My boyfriend got my ring from Bluenile, and its amazing!
Since the diamond is certified, you know that what you are buying is standardized to any certified diamond in a store. so if you go to a store, and look at a certified E-Coulour, VS1, ideal cut, you know it will be the same.
Also, I thought bluenile was better than any store, because you can actually see the table and crown proportions, measurements of the diamonds, ect...but that is only usefull if you really know alot about diamonds...but you can buy like "signature ideal" cut, or "ideal cut"..
They also have a money back guarantee.
FYI: 7K is MOOOORE than enough to delight a lucky woman that loves you....I think its kind of extravagant...but, hey...its not my ring!
(my lover picked up my ring for 1500, it was appraised at just under 3000)
I love bluenile, and we're getting the bands there too.

My dad just bought an engagment ring from Blue Nile, and it was BEAUTIFUL, it looked even better in person, than on the site, and it was appraised at a higher value than he bought it. I think Blue Nile is a good place if you have the money to spend. I would be happy with a cheaper ring, but I would be honored to have a ring of that price on my finger. I think its wonderful. Congragulations, and Best Wishes.

Unless you can find a trusted jeweler (not a mall jewelery store), I would go with BlueNile. They have very reasonable prices compared to most jewelery stores and offers a 30 day return guarantee. Once you get the ring, immediately have the ring appraised to confirm the stone you have matches the certificate you receive.
$7,000 is a great budget and will get you a great, high quality stone. Depending on the shape you choose, you can purchase anywhere from 1 - 1.25ct diamond that is top quality.
I did a lot of research on my own stone... and am helping my brother check out some stone prices. :)
Good luck!

I would DEFINATELY go to a store, but be careful! We jsut got finished going through this -well actually my fiance did, and ended up with Tiffany-it was more expensive than others, but the quality is the best you can get. Baily, Binks, and Biddle or something like that tried to sell him crap, as did a couple of other stores. The main thing is the QUALITY-dont jsut go for bigger if it is a low grade diamond that has inclusions... I love mine, and think it is worth the price tag-and you get get a great diamond for $7, 000 -me personally wouldn't be comfortable with buying online, I would want to look at it before investing that kind of money, but everyone is different.. Robbins Brothers is a budget friendly place, as well as the Jewlery Exchange. Best of Luck, and CONGRATS!

I used to be afraid to buy jewelry online, but look at it's warranty. Many have a 30 day return guarentee. Within that time, go get it appraised. They'll be able to tell you if it's a good deal (which Blue Nile is very reputable, so you shouldn't have any problems).
If you actually want to see it before you buy it, you'll have to get the ring in a store.
Good luck and congrats :)

For some stores, like Blue Nile, you're just paying for the name.
Better to go with a local jewellery store.
As for the amount, for me - it's too much. Simply because I wanted to be able to wear my rings ALL the time, not worry about hurting or losing them. Therefore, my engagement ring and wedding band together were about 1200 - and TOTALLY beautiful and meaningful.

Blue Nile will most likely be superior to anything from the Jewelry store. My husband bought my engagement ring from them and it appraised for twice what he paid. The ring practically sparkles in the dark - it's amazing. Trust me you have nothing to be concerned about!
Your budget is fine, so have fun picking out a great ring!

I would definetly go to a Jewlery store. 1st .You know what the ring looks like .2nd if there is something wrong down the road with the craftsmanship you can have it repaired there and not worry about it being lost in the mail. 3rd $7000 is a great budget for a ring.......good luck with your future bride.

you can get a very nice ring with 7 grand. although. i would suggest before you start shopping with that kind of money to go to your highest quality jewelry store and they will teach you about diamonds....i would suggest jareds galleria of jewelry. they help my husband learn the difference between diamonds and the classes and certifications.....so on and so forth. believe it or not! diamonds are a little peice of education that is quite insiteful if you want a diamond to sparkle FOREVER! and spending that kind of money.....i would research.....
