They haven't even flown the 787 yet, I doubt they have any concrete plans for the next one right now.

However the market may not be able to support two jumbos, so why would they build a third. The 747 is still going strong and can easily be updated without having to make a completely new aircraft.

I think the 797 will be something a bit more revolutionary. I'm still hoping that the sonic cruiser concept will go forward. Airlines are very conservative organizations and don't embrace new technology easily. I think the next new plane will be either a sonic cruiser styly plane, or a blended wing/body design. There's only so far you can go with a standard tube fuselage configuration.

Hello, there is no Boeing 797 right now But read on to find out what it might look like. But the Boeing 797 can be a small jet, a flying wing but not another dreamliner.

Boeing has announced that they will decide on a replacement plan for the popular 737 by the year 2012 at the latest. Chances are that it will be known as the 797.

Boeing has also created the Yellowstone project. The yellowstone project is made of 3 aircraft. One of them is the 787. The other 2 are a replacement for the aging 737 and the replacement for the 777 or even the 747.

The Boeing 797 will most likely be a replacement for the 737. It is currently known as the Y1. The Boeing 797 will use the same technology as the 787. (Cheveron like engines, composites, etc.) Actually, I think that the 797 will look just like the dreamliner but it will have winglits and it will be smaller because it will travel short distances. Boeing says it will propose a new airplane to replace the 787 before the year 2012 and chances are that it will be called the 797. What comes after 787? In sequence, it is the 797. There have been other plans of creating new aircraft such as the Blended wing body which is being researched by Boeing. It will look like a flying wing. The Blended wing body will probaly become the Jumbo Jet of the future because if its capacity. It could carry around 450-800 passengers or even more but still using the same gates and runways as the A380. The Blended wing body will use about 20% less fuel and it will reduce noise impact. But who knows what the 797 will be. It might range from just a small aircraft to the flying machine of the 21st century. Finally, Thank You for asking this question. I like Questions that relate to Boeing and the Dreamliner. Thank You!

There are currently no plans to even build a 797...

In fact, the 787 as we know it, was not supposed to be named the 787... it was supposed to be "the dreamliner" with no numbers involved... However, due to the success and recognizability of the 7-series, "the dreamliner" was dubbed the 787 without Boeing's say so...

The reason for this is that Boeing knows that they are running out of numbers for the 7-series... Their next creation, which may not be for many years, (look how long the 777 has been around, and the 787 idea is not that old) will hopefully be a blended wing design, maybe with supersonic capabilities... although that seems unlikely... and should they go with a revolutionary design, it would be the ultimate opportunity to get away from the legendary 7-series and go with something different... what that would be, I have no idea...

Boeing would never name a plane 797 now at this stage in the game,,, They may jump straight to the 1000 series,,, like the 787 wa 7e7 and 7xx for a long time,,,

Boeing needs a more choices in aircraft,, everything they make now is a wide body except for the 737,,, they need one smaller and one bigger than the 737 in narrowbody,,,

the 767,777 787 are all widebodys,,, like dummies they stopped the 757 line

I would imagine more like the Dreamliner. With issues of fuel economy becoming the major driving force behind airplane demand I can't see a jumbo jet being something that would be in great demand. Customers want more comfort, choice, and value when it comes to flying so making efficient mid-sized planes with a lot of amenities is really the way that the airline industry is going to be headed at least for a while.

Boeing hasn't designated anything as the 797 yet. They are thinking about designing a replacement for the 737, but won't decide what to do about that until 2012. Right now, they're trying to get enough parts together to get the 787 off the ground!
