cake with -strawbery filling-?

im making a vanilla cake with white frosting for my moms bday
i want to i want to fill the middle with strawberries
whats the best recipe for the filling?

Why not just go fresh slice them thin and just layer them in the middle on top of custard or whipping cream similar to what you would get with strawberry shortcake. Then just go crazy with the icing.

Use fresh strawberries, barring that depending on the season and availability, use frozen strawberries.
