At Selly Oak hospital– which is part of the University Hospital Birmingham NHS foundation trust but also houses the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine – colleagues of wounded soldiers were not allowed to visit wearing uniform for fear of upsetting Muslim visitors and staff. Does anyone agree with the stance of the hospital? If so please could you explain? I am not trying to incite an arguement I just want to hear what people have to say.

Bajingo:
I don't think it's that people aren't interested in the fact that the complaint was made by one muslim visitor, I think it's that details such as these aren't reported so people don't know about them. I certainly didn't know the background of the decision to ban military uniform in the hospital. But whatever the background, the resulting action by the hospital remains the same and - in my opinion - is just as wrong.

Personally I think that if the visitor is on the side of his 'brothers' in Afghanistan in this war that Britain is embroiled in, then surely he should be deported? He certainly shouldn't be supported in his hostile feelings towards his British countrymen! At the very least someone should have politely explained that if he didn't want to see the British uniform he shouldn't visit the hospital. Would we have tolerated a Nazi mourning his fallen 'brothers'? Any IRA supporters visiting a British hospital who complained about British uniform would certainly not be pandered to in such a manner! The IRA were and are a very small minority in Ireland and any vocal supporters were and are vilified in England (I am English btw).

I think that the decision by the British hospital to sympathise with a muslim who supports our enemy, and the subsequent press reports only serve to create more hostility towards the British Muslim community. It would be far more conducive to racial tolerance if this man's treacherous views and requests had been quietly rebuffed by the hospital.

Tolerance works both ways. If people have to compromise their values and beliefs for others values and beliefs that is not tolerance - it is INTOLERANCE. The hospital is in the wrong, period.

No I think that is a nonsense stance.
(I know the hospital well. )
Nonetheless, what people here (Muslim-bashers) aren't interested in is the fact that the complaint/attack against the soldier was made by one muslim man who was visiting. He was upset about his 'brothers in Afghanistan' being killed.
Sounds reasonable to me.
But the facts don't matter to those who just want to call all British Muslims 'cockroaches'.
Imagine if it was an old irish man complaining at them during the IRA issue, would Americans here be calling all Irishmen 'cockroaches?'
PS After a personal long stay in that hospital (for stomach ulcer), the only person who was really polite (and friendly) to me in that whole ward was a Muslim woman, and we have remained friends ever since. Her family are gracious, peaceful and giving people. I find the generally bigoted and generalizing anti-Muslim comments here to be despicable.
And I am completely opposed to Islam.
REMESTER speaks sense, yet he gets thumbed down?
This is like a witch hunt isnt it?

I have no idea what that would cause in the USA but it is not likely to ever happen. Does the UK allow Muslims to enlist? Are Muslims serving in the UK armed forces? Muslims are serving in the US Armed forces and American Muslims know why they have freedom of religion.

i think of it disgraceful we've been pandering to this type of pc for years, it's going to be seen as a privilege to stay in Britain no longer take it with none attention. To stay right that's to conform to our standards to no longer stay by ability of sharia regulation, if no longer go and stay interior the liberal strongholds of the middle east and Pakistan.

It is normal security procedure for serving soldiers not to wear their uniform in public, it would not upset me because i am a muslim and ex TA soldier.

Perhaps the hospital staff should move to an islamic country for a while.
THEN perhaps they would have an appreciation for their service men and women.
Prohibiting the uniform would be sad if it weren't so disgusting.
Shame, shame, shame on U.K.

I am not shocked at all. Tell me, what DOESN'T offend goddamned Muslims? It is an honor for a wounded soldier to recieve a visit from fellow comrades in uniform, especially ranking superiors. I cannot believe these cockroaches have gelded England so. You all need to rise up and remember your Celtic roots.
