Losing a pet is like losing any other loved one in the family. Give it time. Your parents may not be ready to replace your dog with another one. And they might not be prepared to take on the responsibility of another dog, and face going through this all over again. It's painful to go through, and you have to let people mourn the loss of the pet and give them time before suggesting getting another one. Pushing people does not always work. They might give it a chance if they know how happy it could make you and how much you miss the dog you lost.

Try starting small, with a pet that doesn't take as much responsiblility so you can prove yourself. However, there are so many dogs out there in shelters that need homes. No matter what DO NOT get a dog from a STORE. These places get their dogs from puppy mills, underground factories with extremely inhumane conditions where dogs are bred until they can't have any more litters and are then euthanized or left to die. If you do buy from a store you will be supporting these cruel people and their buisnesses. There are so many shelters with many different dogs. Go to http://stoppuppymills.org/ for more info and to get puppy adopting tips. You could also try fostering a dog from a local shelter who does that or walking a neighbors dog. Fostering would be a great temporary way to prove that without getting into a 15 yr commitment. Also, go to that site and show your parents all those dogs taht need homes that aren't even as expensive as the ones in the stores.

Well, my brother convinced my parent by asking almost 10 times a day every day. (i wouldnt suggest it)
But if that doesnt work, maybe find the breed you want in a book or online
Find out the reason why they dont want a dog
For example if it is the hair, some breeds dont shed
Anyways know the breed that will work for you and your parents and reasearch it

If it is the potty training, maybe you could get a dog that is like 6 months old, so it is already potty trained, thats what we did
Promise you will walk him(or her) and pick up after him ,ect.

But I thnik the most important thing is to sit down with your parents and talk to them like an adult, not like a kid
Give them the facts ,find out why they dont want a dog, and suggest ways to overcome the problem, whatever you do, dont whine about it or beg, thats the one thing you dont do.

Hope this helps, Good Luck! =-)

How old are you? I think the best way to go about getting your parents on board for a new pooch would be to tell them it would help teach you responsibility. You could go on Word and create a schedule of "chores" related to the care of the dog, for example 7:00 feed & water 4:00 walk 5:00 grooming... etc. They might take you more seriously if you show them you've put serious consideration into it. Owning a pet is a great responsibility!

In some places they give away pets like dogs and cats for around 15 to 40 bucks. I used to live next door to someone who was gonna sell me a dog for 5 or 10 buck if I remember correctly. Try to find someone with a dog they don't want anymore and tell your parents about it so they don't have to send so much. That should be worth a shot.

I would sit them down and have a conversation telling them that you are ready for another dog and you are going to be responsible for the dog. They probably think if you get another dog they are going to have to take care of it but if you offer to help them they may be more inclined to get you the dog. Good Luck!

A dog is a huge responsibility, why not sit them down and explain that you are willing to be very responsible, take the dog for walks daily, be responsible for feeding him or her, etc.

My parents recently lost their beloved dog, and they're too heartsick to think of getting another pet yet. I know in time they will, our family has never been without pets, and when they come to my house, they love seeing my dogs. But it takes time to get over the loss of a loved one, even a four footed furry loved one.

Start watching Animal Prescient and Humane Society channels on TV every time your parents walk in the room. When that blond chick cop comes on and starts talking about neglected animals and shows pictures, that'll get them.
Get pictures from magazines, every cute little puppy picture you can find, put it somewhere in your room.
They'll crack either out of pity or just to shut you up, either way you win.
Good Luck, now go start clipping pictures.

Be responsible, do things they wouldn't even of thought of you doing, don't pester them with "Um...I really really really want a dog." Just drop hints, like when your bored say "I wish I had a dog, I could be walking right now." If you aren't getting the best grades, try to improve them. Also try to help pay for the dog.

show them that you are responsible enought to take care of the dog, make a list (or a contract which you sign for them) detailing all the things you will do when the dog comes...my friend did something like this to get her liscence at 16 and it worked for her parents. good luck :)
