There are two main reasons why humans invent afterlives. The first reason is that they are scared of death. They cannot accept that they are eventually going to die, and are afraid of what will happen. The second reason is more of a psychological one. We see cycles of life everywhere in nature; life returning to an area devastated by a fire or a volcanic eruption, new organisms living on after their predecessors have died, etc. Such things are commonplace in nature. Humans, however, fail to see that they are merely a small part of the cycle of life, not a cycle in themselves. People would rather believe that their existence is an entire, continuous cycle in and of itself. The reality is that our offspring are the ones continuing our cycle and species, not each person as an individual.

A true scientist would have little to do with today's scientific community.
A true scientist would never rule out any option if that option wasn't proved to be 100% absolutely false.
It is the same when it comes to the human soul, and the multitude of unexplainable things we experience in life.
Love/Compassion...the soul, the paranormal...miracles, spirits, ghosts...demon possession...etc. So very many personal and mass experiences to choose from in the history of this world, with no "scientific explanation," but do have explanations. Just because the supernatural or God is the source or reason for the explanations, does not in any way discredit the claims. If you accept that things are simply beyond our understanding, then you must admit that the possibility exists that God and what He tells us through His word is an option.
Acknowledging that God is real, and that as our Creator, is the source of all things is simply a part of our design as human beings made in God's "image"(reflection, etc). We were made with the desire to know, to ask questions, to seek our origin, our Creator. All people worship, and if they do not worship God, they worship something or someone else. Religion is not something made by man to explain away the unexplainable or supernatural and it is not fantasy. God interacted with the world, and gave us His Commandments...His rules for living right lives according to His All knowing Authority, and this history is recorded by the witnesses who were there, by those who gave themselves to God's service...we acknowledge the evidence of God in creation, and the Truth of His Word, and we desire to know Him. The only problem you are having is that you are unwilling to accept that God did what is written He did. If we accept any ancient historical texts, such as the writings of Socrates, Ceasar, Plato, Homer, the writings of Aristotle, etc etc...then we must also give more credence to the writings of the New Testament alone, which exist in far surpassing numbers than any other ancient historical writings, approx, 19,000+ more documents than Homer's Illiad, which is the second most numerous with only around 900+ copies. We believe what we read according to it's credibility. All but one of the Author's of the New Testament were executed for preaching it's message. They could have saved themselves and simply recanted, and denied Christ, but instead of deny what they "knew" to be true, they died keeping faith to God because they witnessed Christ personally and knew Him to be who He said He is. A person might die and kill for something they believe, but people will not die for something they "know" is a lie.
There are infinite things not under our control on this earth, and therefore we can accept that there are infinite things beyond our control that are not of this earth. Believing in God is not the easy way out of a complicated issue...where we come from, why we are here, etc. It requires faith.
In fact, the idea that we do not have purpose and that we were merely an accident is the true copout. Because if we were not designed to fulfill a specific purpose, it means we are not held to account for anything, and can do whatever we want with no consequence other than ceasing to exist, so long as no one witnesses our crimes. It also means that there is no right and wrong, and in essence this means that anything goes. If you live in reality, you can see, anything does not go. There is true Right action, and the absence of right action is wrong action. The absence of good is evil. The absence of heat is cold, and the absence of light is darkness. This is reality. If good exists, then there must be a perfect standard for what is Good. Otherwise, all is relative.
Take Care and God Bless.

Not everything is supposed to be 100% proven. There is an element of faith required. Otherwise there would be no point of religion at all. I mean, is it logical for us to expect that someone proves a certain investment will give us a guaranteed profit? If so, everyone would do it and reap the rewards. Same goes for the afterlife....

Life after death? When you're dead, you stop living, so how could you have life after you stop living?! That's a silly idea, that science can easily discount. Take any dead body, and see if it has any of the properties of being alive. Does it move on it's own? No. Does it react to stimlu? No. Does it demonstrate any awarenss? No.
Life after death, that's just absurd...who comes up with this nonsense.

Science is a concept that God allowed man to have to pacify his hunger to figure out creation on his own. There are many that are wiser than you in the field of science that have reached the peak of present knowledge & have come to the conclusion that there has to be an inteligent designer that being God. You have the priveledge of believing or not. I don't because I have accepted the truth & will not risk my soul to eternal condemnation. God keeps the door open for us to come in untill our last breath & than He closes the door & when he does you will instantly realise that you have lost all hope & will be in hell forever. Your Choice!!!

It's pretty obvious isn't it? Your brain stops functioning therefore you lose consciousness, self-awareness, etc....
On what basis do you assume you will in some crazy way 'live' after death.

Actually, NDE's are the result of a surge of endorphins that the brain releases shortly before its death. They cause surreal hallucinations.

Why do you ask science to explain something that it never claimed to be able to answer?

Actually, there is life after death - we call them "children" or "survivors". You are right about science - it has its limitations. Good question = star.
