My, you folks must have an exceptionally great boss, at this time of year, it's more customary for the BOSS to give their employees an bonus, NOT the other way around......but that's just my way of thinking......If you do decide to give your boss a present, I'd do it very casually, NOT in front of the rest of your co-workers........Just my take on things.......Enjoy!!!

Nope. Absolutely not.

It can and will backfire you. First of all, by doing so, you are trying to edge over your co-workers. Somehow, your co-workers will get to know it and they will not like it. Your boss might think you are trying to brown nose him or her. This is not a good thing either in a professional environment.

If you really really want to do something, you can try to do something casually like baking cake (or something your boss likes) or paying for lunch when you happen to go with your boss for lunch (it should be regular lunch and nothing fancy ofcourse not in fast food).

No it's not OK. You agreed to go in together, to add something separate will make the others think you're a brown-noser and not their friend.
Don't give your boss more than a token, he decides how much he wants to be able to buy before he decides how much of the leftover profit to pay you with.

It doesn't really seem fair to your co-workers.
Coworkers: Mr. Johnson, we all chipped in to buy you this new puppy! (Just an example, I know you're not really getting him a puppy).
You: But look! I got you this computer!

Obviously, you're not going to actually say that. But unless you buy him something really small, that's how it will come off. If it's just a box of chocolates or a CD or something, that probably will be alright, as long as you do it inconspicuously. For example, leaving it on his desk.

No, it will appear that you are brown-nosing. If you want to get him something just from you, stick with a card.

No, it's not ok. Keep with the original agreement.

Of course. Just as long as it's appropriate.
