I don't know if we are spending too much on our food each week. Just wondering what other people spend per week?

We are a family of 6, 2 adults and 4 children under the age of 8. We live in Australia, so if you could put your $$$ is Aust $ that would be helpful to me.

Thanks so much.

me and my wife spend 50 US dollars a week. During the summer when I grow many of the things I need... I can go down to 20 dollars a week. Next year I am going to freeze and jar a much bigger garden and should spend 30ish a week. When we both first got married and I was broke as a joke.. we could make it by on 25 dollars. She is Filipino and knows how to stretch our budget and make cheap meals... most of which are rice heavy.

we should plan and we could save more... but we just tend to make things up because we have a lot of fun cooking together.
Even now that I make considerably more than before we still keep a strict budget. I like to keep it below 150 a month and this is easy to do if you can grow potatoes and other multi-purpose veggies at home. I would also like to get some chickens this spring. That way I know what I eat is healthier and at least had a bit of a better life.

Your grocery bill is high when you grow so much yourself. Perhaps you eat a lot of expensive meat and/or ready made meals. Track all your spending daily for several weeks to see where the money is going, and you will see what costs most, then you can look for ways to reduce the cost. I feed two adults (one middle aged) for less than $280 a month ..... often less than $250.

I am single, and i spend about 50 dollars Canadian every other week, that's everything. i buy pasta, rice, cereal, soup mixes, and baking supplies at a bulk store. drinking water i get from my parents who live in the country (my city water tastes funny). That's all i can afford, so i stretch every dollar to its fullest.
I know when we were teenagers (3 children) my mom was feeding us on about 250 dollars a month, same reason though, money was really tight and i don't know how she managed because then there were no bulk stores in our area.

For the two of us - two adult males - we average $250 US dollars a month in food. This does not include non-food items such as toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc. We do not eat out much and we plan all of our meals in advance and stick to our grocery list when we go to the store.

We spend between 60-75/week. Its myself, my boyfriend and our 3 1/2 yr old daughter. I try to plan my meals in advance, so that I don't go crazy when I get to the store.

It's just my husband and I, and our average is about $350 US a month. Just groceries, no toiletries like paper towels or soap. I'd like to get that number down to $300.
