You've got it! No recipe required!
I brick of cream cheese, soft,
cover that with baby fresh/frozen or even canned shrimp and
cover with a bottle of cocktail sauce
garnish with parsley sprigs.
Serve with chips or toasted baguettes and you're good to go!
Another idea is to mix a can of chili and shredded cheddar cheese together, heat until melted and pour over the block of cream cheese. Serve warm and with crackers. This is sooo good!

What you said is pretty much it...mix some small cooked shrimp into cocktail sauce (drain the canned shrimp first) and just pour it over a block of cream cheese. That is all there is too it....my aunt makes that every Christmas Eve and it is the first thing to be eaten up!

I cream a brick of cream cheese to soften it, add several tablespoons each of sour cream and mayonnaise, mix all together and add some garlic powder, dried onion flakes, dill and paprika.
Spread on a tray about 12 inches round (or like 13 by 9). Spread over cocktail sauce. Top with canned shrimp or crab. I then add finely diced tomatoes and green peppers if I have them, then shredded cheese (cheddar, mozza or a mix).

You've got the recipe already!!!
1 block of cream cheese
1 can shrimp (or crab) well drained
1/2 cup salsa or cocktail sauce, your choice
Place block of cream cheese on a serving plate; evenly place shrimp (or crab) on cream cheese and cover with salsa or cocktail sauce.......I like to do one of each, the cream cheese and crab with cocktail sauce, and one with cream cheese , shrimp and salsa.......
Serve with Pita Chips, assorted crackers, Bagel Chips......
Enjoy!

try allrecipes.com or foodnetwork.com and do a search of specific ingredients. Your question is pretty broad.
