In a few years time I want to hike The Pacfic Crest Trail. I was wondering how long distance backpackers actully found a hiking partner.

Try your local hiking clubs for starters. You might find someone from your area who is planning the same thing. Also check with the volunteers who maintain the trail as well as the PCT HQ staff. The AT HQ offers similar services and can sometimes put you in touch wih others planning to start at the same time...can't see why the PCT wouldn't have the same thing.

Make a list of priority groups of people, such as Family Members, Fellow Club Members, Church Group, etc., etc. Then start at the top of the list, and ask these people. "My personal experience is that no one could know what I'm up to unless I told them".
