Man intrinsically seeks out structure.

It lends order to their lives... and order equals comfort... like going on "auto-pilot."

Even those who actively seek out chaos and disharmony - fall into repeat patterns of the types of people they gravitate to - and the KIND of dramas they create in their lives.

Religious traditions provide structure... and that structure gives many the means to keep God in a comfortable box that lets them feel comfortable about their relationship with God. ...Living their faith on "auto-pilot." Challenging their comfort often galvanizes their focus when they refuse to use self examination, God and Scripture to honestly confirm their position.

We're all guilty of this at one time or the other.

Our God is bigger than any box.

He will always upset the "box" in favor for making us face the difference between our comfortable Pew-Potato status, and His true desire for a RELATIONSHIP with us.

Focusing on God and His Word means we actually have to WORK... like in ANY relationship.

...Time to get up off of 'dat pew!!!

Peace.

Somehow, some people have begun to believe that religion and God are the same things.
Religion is what people believe in and rules that go with it.
God and His Word are just that.. God and His Word.
A lot of people seem to find it more important to prove which religion is right or better and forget the real reason any religion was started. There seems to be a lot of time spent arguing about which religion is better and that takes time away from focusing on God and His Word.

Just my opinion.

Dear Semper Fi Reborn,

That is an excellent observation!
I don't know WHY it is but I agree with you.

To me it sure seems that since religion is man-made there are nearly as many religions as there are human beings.

But God's Word is about being in a right Relationship with Him.

Are you in a right relationship with the awesome uncreated Creator of the universe? I sure hope so.

For His glory,
JOYfilled

this is an excellent question
People have a much easier time defining God in man's terms than pursuing Him themselves. Schneb is right - religion is the means to gather the people under one umbrella. Unfortunately, through the centuries, the religiosity became more important. As more and more people were "born" into their beliefs, their beliefs became part of their lifestyles and culture, and therefore ingrained. Learning their religion takes priority over seeking God's face.

People are afraid that if they focus on God and His Word they might find out they are sinners in need of His grace, or that Christ died and rose for them. It was a free gift that God gave thru His son. Religions tend to focus on what a person has to do to gain God's favor. This is false, since you can never do enough, since God's word demand perfection. Christ lived the perfect life in our place, and what good we do is merely a reflection of the Grace of God.

Hope this helps.

There are literally thousands of definitions of the word religion, each perhaps unique to the individual; however if ones source of truth is God's Word, then there is no conflict whatsoever, since God's word gives a very clear definition of what true religion really is about:

"If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this,

To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." - James 1:26,27.

Satan is “the god of this system of things,” who is blinding the minds of the unbelievers by every means possible, including divisive politics.
Many so-called mainstream denominations have splintered into a variety of sects, and confusion is the result. Take, for example, the Baptist religion in the United States, which is split between Northern Baptists (American Baptist Churches in the U.S.A.) and Southern Baptists (Southern Baptist Convention), as well as dozens of other Baptist groups that have resulted from schisms. (World Christian Encyclopedia, page 714) Many divisions have sprung from differences of doctrine or church government (for example, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Congregational). The divisions of Christendom are paralleled by those of religions outside Christendom—whether Buddhism, Islam, or Hinduism. What did the apostle Paul counsel the early Christians? “Now I exhort you, brothers, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that you should all speak in agreement, and that there should not be divisions among you, but that you may be fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought.”—1 Corinthians 1:10; 2 Corinthians 13:11.

Sadly, many are unaware of the forces of darkness that are working in every aspect of their lives.Sadly, again, those whom are more focused on religion, have been brought up in that way,...they truly do not know there is a difference.
IT'S ALL ABOUT DECEPTION

How many people, make pursuit of their physical lives their priority, leaving their spiritual lives on hold,or,just lackadaisically pursue them if they ever get around to it?

Strangely, yet honestly,...people just don't see the picture, that we are first, and foremost, created by God,for the purpose of worshipping Him,and praising Him,and we are created in His spiritual likeness.
We are NOT "physical" first,...then spiritual.
These fleshy bodies mean nothing.

Many generations have ignored the advice to bring up a child in the way he must go.
Our prisons and cemeteries are over flowing with proof of this.

Then there are those who just strive to look good to other humans, and never remember, nor be aware that God is no respecter of man.

I appreciate your question, even though it's very subject makes me puke. That's reality.
God Bless You & Your's!

I'm starting to think that Jon M and I were brothers seperated at birth..... well spoke, bro.

Its the paradigm. Without it everything falls apart. My faith leaves room for God and his Word to depart from paradigm.

Religion tends to leave very limited room for God to move in an unexpected way. Religion IS paradigm. Be prepared for God to move out and beyond that thinking.

peace regards respects

Because the two go together. you can't have God and his word without a load of leaders to interpret it for you. then it's called a religion. Before it's a book and a hope.
