Priests and Bishops are barred from political office by Church law (not civil law). The Church looks to protect human dignity and human rights and does not for look for political power.

The Church is primarily a spiritual body. But she is also a moral teacher.

If people are going to make moral issues into political ones then they should not complain when the Church uses its freedoms of speech and religion.

When you look at the 1.1 billion believers worshiping in over 200,000 parishes worldwide you can see that the Catholic Church is a spiritual entity.

However the Church is also a moral teacher and has been teaching the world what it believes God thinks is right and wrong for almost 2,000 years.

Jesus said, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:18-20)

The Catholic Church has been teaching world governments what it believes is right and wrong since the ancient Romans stopped persecuting it and long before anyone heard of the freedom of speech.

The Catholic Church protested about the blood sports in the Roman Colosseum and they were stopped.

The Catholic Church supported the Polish Solidarity movement and the Soviet Union fell apart.

I don't think the Church is going to (or should) stop teaching the world governments what is right or wrong now.

Remember the Catholic Church proposes. It does not impose.

With love in Christ.

If all of society were led by a Catholic priest, it would interesting defiantly. Even an Episcopal priest would be interesting. I think first, the priest would transfer power to the Pope. Second, I think that maybe (and i really don't know, i am not Catholic, i am Episcopalian) he would try to convert all people to Catholicism. But again, i do not know how close i am to the truth, as i am not Catholic. But converting wouldn't be that bad anyway, seeing as i myself am nearly Catholic. He would probably nullify all gay marriages, which would not be all bad. But other than those things, I don't really know.

I don't think thats even possible because there is some sort of rule that I heard the vatican has that the religiously ordained cannot be polititions unless they renounce their position. So techniqualy it can't happen. But you could have a former priest. This idea comes from the scripture that says "you cannot serve two masters" Personaly I'm not sure it would be a good idea because I'd be a little concerened about women lossing freedoms.

that will never happen unless the country is a completely Catholic country. the priest has vows and tennents to uphold as a matter of faith. these are not easy and most people are too concerned about only their personal happiness & satisfaction to care about others.

It's a non-issue. Catholic priests are not allowed to run for governmental offices.

No different from the Taliban. Same oppression based on control rather than religion. This is a democracy and the Catholic church is not at all democratic. Otherwise, priests would have gone public many years ago about the child abuse that was going on.

Same as it would be for another candidate for leadership in a democracy. I am opposed to Romney because he is a Republican not because he is a Mormon. I would apply the same criteria to voting for a Catholic candidate but i must inform you that our priests are not even allowed to influence our votes never mind run for office.

Open war would be declared on the country with the priest as a leader.

The time of God-kings is long gone, friend.
