It seems each state is different where some have a def no on this car where some states say it has to be made to LHD whilst others are fine left as RHD and others are less tighter on the emissions and safety aspects which put many buyers off.So the best thing to do is see which rules are you hold by where you live.
The main Issue with the R32 is the back end as a in crash test the petrol tank was close to the back seats.and a straightened bar has to be added across the back.
Another thing to think about is buying a GTS-T GTS GT GTT to save on cost, the GTR is expensive anywhere in the world to buy,but buying a non turbo or single turbo model will make the price alot cheaper to start off with.
Also check ebay and skyline, nissan clubs/forums and import mags for people selling there Skylines,I know off a member on my main skyline forum there is US Owner selling his R32 gts-t with US papers in Florida. So there are people out there selling there's to save on the importing hassle. Good luck with your hunt i will add some links to help each is different but looks the same.
Great cars and true legends and changed motor racing as they won every race so the rules where changed to stop them.
Even older R32 models are advanced still now to most everyday cars, and offer a great engine which can be tuned to great bhp limits.Enough to scare 100k+cars as they are unsure of what your engine is running at.
No one can knock these cars as there legend speaks for itself. And they are famous the world over with headturning looks from young and old and are worth every penny as someone will deff buy it of you when you come to selling it and
With the looks and power its a car to keep for a long time.
There are great cars and great fun and still give me a smile each time i sit in mine.and this is from every owner if you dont believe me check a search engine for skyline smile.

Shipping would cost you 2500-4500 dollars.

Now, if you're talking about a 25+ year old Skyline, that's most of the cost right there. You don't need to do any mods to it.

If you're NOT, you cannot legally import it. Period. Motorex is out of business. RB Motorsports is not importing cars anymore. You cannot import a newer Skyline without breaking any laws. Some people VIN-swap cars (put the VIN from a legal car on an illegal one), but if those people are ever in an accident in their illegal cars, they will be ******. Also they're running the risk of having their cars impounded and destroyed.

A car has to be
25 years old
OR
On the approved list of nonconforming vehicles and imported by a registered importer, who performs required mods, if any
OR
Low-volume (less than 500 made) and historically or technologically significant.

Also there are exceptions for bringing it in temporarily as a tourist, or as a foreign diplomat, but you couldn't sell it in the US.

The R32 and later Skylines do not yet qualify. The R33 Skylines are approved, and COULD be imported if you had all the required information to do all the required documentation and all the required modifications, but unless you're going to do all the engineering yourself, or convince RB Motorsports or what's left of Motorex to help you, it isn't going to happen.

Forget it and buy a 350Z or an Evo or something.

Hey, there's an R33 in Utah for sale. Being an R33, it could have been legally imported. 20 grand.

Tricky knows. Now what would you be doing with it? Drifting a very rare car indeed is just wasteful. And the novelity wears off quickly when you cannot go to Nissan and buy parts.
I reccomend you spend the money on a base model 350Z and build one of those up.

I know a guy that had bought one when he was stationed in Japan. The cost to have it imported was almost $15,000 for him.
