Popular shows appeal to some people's interests. The fact that you don't care for them simply means that they don't appeal to YOUR interests.
As to being "no good" .... sometimes people like to watch shows that depict someone who is REALLY stupid - because it makes them feel good to be smart enough to feel smarter than THAT person on the TV.
Then again, a famous man named P.T. Barnum (who was co-founder of the Barnum & Bailey Circus) once said, "No one ever went broke by UNDERestimating the intelligence of the American public." Which means - go ahead and aim low. You'll have plenty of targets to hit anyway.

Many of them act like sheep because its more socially acceptable. Popular shows are almost always watered down low risk ventures. A bit like modern pop music, they steal bits and pieces from the underground and just cheese it up.

maybe becuase of the suspence and how the drama and such and how they want to see it and how it turns out..
