no, i'm not upset, nor do i have a fascination with hermaphrodites. i've been reading a book that called to my attention (yet another) divide of logic and traditional religious values.

and yes, i have read the bible. i am pretty scripturally literate for an apostate! i make assumptions because they are necessary to pose a question that inspires people to question their own assumptions or beliefs.

Have you read the Bible? I ask because there seem to be three assumptions here. First, you assume that moral rights and wrongs are independent of circumstances. The Bible advocates situational ethics. Second, you assume that God makes everyone the way they are. There also seems to be an assumption that hermaphrodites are against nature. There is no reason to assume that God micromanages the universe. Third, you assume that homosexuality is a sin. It is debatable whether or not the Bible even condemns homosexual behavior.

The basic answer is hermaphrodites are never discussed in ANY religious text (that includes the Bible) except Hinduism. In Hindu texts a hermaphrodite is considered a more evolved and therefore a more Godlike individual. However, this is usually interpreted as them leading a life asexually because being born of both sexes, they would not be drawn to the necessity of physical union with another sex.

Despite what you see in the pornos, there are not true "hermaphrodites" in the human kind. What there are, however, is the occasional person who does not develop all the way to one end of the "gender scale." You see, the tissues of the male and female sex organs are originally the same. It is during development of the fetus that they start to go one direction or the other. However, occasionally a mistake is made during development that causes them stop "halfway". This may result in things like a man having an abnormally small penis, or a woman having a larger than usual clitoris. Further changes can manifest at puberty, like deep-voiced women or men who grow breasts, but these are usually prevented with hormonal therapy. There are no occurrences of a person being born both 100% male and 100% female. It just doesn't happen in humans.

Well usually on hermaphrodites one of the genitalia is not functional therefore there would be no need to use the other. But on the religious side of it... I don't think God minds that the person doesn't have a choice in the matter. God is quite forgiving so I think he'll understand that maybe the person's mind doesn't quite fit into the stereotype of a good christian.

Why would they be considered a sin when God apparently created and loves everyone?
Science explains the condition. There is no sin there, just a mix up in genes when the child was first conceived.
A human is a human is a human, no matter what body parts they have or are missing.

It happens. I don't think that any god would hate his own creation.
P.S. If you were born a Hermaphrodite in some Native American tribes, you were automaticlly going to be a shaman or priest. They were concidered the most holy.

I think this is an awesome question. One day when they prove that gays and transexuals are born that way you can extend this question to them. In a nutshell he would not create his ppl to suffer. Unless other PEOPLE decide that they should suffer and then make it happen for them. I think sex is a natural act and people with ambiguos genitalia should have the right to enjoy it with a consenting adult and without interference from people screaming some BS in Jesus' name.

No, God would not consider this a sin. Because we live in a world that is not perfect, there are birth defects. This is not the fault of God, but of sin and its consequences. God loves everyone and can take anyone's life and make it fulfilling.

Premarital or extramarital sex. Same as for the rest of us. The only difference is they would have to make a determination as to what gender they most identify with. God bless!!

of what i know of hermaphrodites, their emotions and hormones tend to sway them more into one gender and they subsequenty decide... i THINK God would consider ita sin if they went against their emotive desires when choosing a partner yet again it is more difficult for them to find a sexual partner
