I think the authors/film-makers LOVE it when Christians get their knickers in a twist over their stuff...
Would Harry Potter EVER have gotten so popular, if Christians hadn't been all Slithery and Hufflepuffy about it??
Probably not....
I'm guessing that more people will get involved in The Golden Compass because of the fuss being made over it by Christians...
Heh...as if a bunch of kids could actually kill God, anyhow...it's a rather silly idea, if you ask me...

If I wanted to see a movie, or read a book, I will do it. I am not religious. If I do get offended I will simply stop reading/watching. Simple as that.

It would depend on WHY they felt so strongly about it. If they had a solid biblical reason against it, I'd comply. If not, I'd see it or read it if I wanted to. Also, praying first before deciding is paramount to any decision where morality is an issue.

I make my own mind up about what I read or watch. If a religious leader told me something was inappropriate, I'd tell him to mind his own business.

I've never been told by anyone who was religious what to do if it had nothing to do with that particular religion.
I don't count people who speak for others as able to tell me what to do, btw.

Not me. If I were interested in it, I'd see it or read it anyway. If not, I wouldn't have bothered in the first place.

Is not the leader only trying to protect you from material that might do you harm or damage? This sort of protection is usually necessary until you reach the age of discretion and you are able to sort out the sheep from the goats yourself and be strong enough to resist.
