The question is a little misguided. The Bible is a collection of stories, legends, poems, morality plays, etc. It is meant to be understood, not "believed." It is like an Opera by Mozart. You don't believe it, you try to understand and appreciate its meaning. The same can be said for all of the religious books that you just mentioned. And there is no reason why you should try to understand Mozart but ignore Beethoven.

It has never been proven false. That is something to consider. Why not believe it, if no one has ever found fault in it. It is not only a book of stories, but of actual event and if the whole thing is true, then these are actual events, and then it becomes facinating. If it can promise an everlasting life in a paradise called Heaven, then what can you loose in believing it? You have everything to loose if you do not believe in it, if it is right. I believe. Faith comes from hearing and hearing from the Word of God, The Bible.

Because it is the Word of God! Many prophecies have been fulfilled and there are facts in the Bible that were there long before science discovered them.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness

Fair and sensible question.

1. It seriously postulates an historical basis. Just look at Luke chapter 3 the first five verses. How many historical persons does he list to date that one event? As one scholar said, 'it is based on historical facts, inextricably tied up with historical facts, and may for all practical purposes be regarded as true if the facts upon which it is based are shown to be true.' Just skim through second Kings, for example, and note how a running chronology was kept referreing to the dates of rule of various kings, the accepted way of keeping track of dates then.

2. It is scientifically accurate. In Job (chapter 25 or 26, sorry, no references handy) it says, "He is stretching the north out over the empty place, hanging the earth upon nothing." The Law of Moses correctly detailed principles of quarantine in case of disease. Circumcision was given, whiich reduces danger of cervical cancer in women. It was to be done on the eighth day after birth, when, according to medical science, the infant's antibody level is actually higher than it will be the rest of his life. In its opening words (Genesis 1:1), it leaves the time of the creation of the universe and earth open, while the next chapter, (2:4) shows that the seven "days" of creation were not literal by referring to them ALL as one "day," and using a different Hebrew word to show that those "days" were solely from thhe perspective of the earth, preparing it for habitation. Sir Henry Rawlinson commented on the divergence of languages throughout the earth, 'If we were to be guided merely by the intersection of linguistic paths, and independent of the Bible record, we should still be led to fix on the plains of Shinar as the focus from which the various lines had radiated.' (Mesopotamia, Babylonia, where the tower of Babel was said to have been attempted.) There are too many things like this to mention here.

3. The candor of the Bible writers. Ever notice how historical leaders are usually cast in a posiitive light? Just remember when President Ford tripped while deboarding a plane. All the news was, "President tripped--might indicate he is clumsy? Might cost respect" He just tripped on a step, for Pete's sake. Yet the Bible plasters important Bible characters' mistakes and faults up for all to see. A sign of honesty.

4. Fulfilled prophecy. Jesus in his prophecy concerning the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans (70 C.E.) told the Christians to get out whenn they saw Jerusalem surrounded by encamped armies, as her "desolation is getting near." This,in fact, happened in 66 CE when it was surrounded by General Cestius Gallus, who, on the verge of winning, retreated instead. Jewish/Roman historian Flavius Josephus records that the Christians fled to the mountains near Pella. The Romans returned in 70 CE and besieged the city, swollen with visitors for a festival. 1,100,000 were killed, the remaining 100,000 sold as slaves. How did the Christians know to flee if the prophecy was 'written later and disguised to appear as if it had been written before?'
Jesus fulfilled some 150 prophecies recorded 300 years before his arrival in the Septuagint Bible (which see.)

That's all I can think of right now on the spur of the moment, with no references handy. Of course, this is no defense of religions or people that may try to force their own mistaken interpretations on the Bible. Check with Jehovah's witnesses about the short book, "Is the Bible Really the Word of God?"
It gives references you can check better than mine.

Best regards, Mike

A person should read it first and then decide for themselves. Read all the inspired books. You will find a lot in common between them.

The BIBLE has repeatedly been proven true, and never proven wrong. Those that say it is wrong are ether deliberately lying, or are deceived, and believe the lie.

No OBJECTIVE reason is valid to believe one over another. Each adherent of those religions believes that THEIR book is 'truth'.
