I'm talking about young (college age) adults from a relatively concervative point of view. I've been asking around on campus and I'm getting anywhere from first date, four-six months, or even a year. I'm trying to figure out a decent amount of time for the characters in a novel I'm writing. They're about 19 and were childhood friends (secretly in love with each other) before they get together at the beginning of the book. Both virgins. I currently have them wait 3-4 weeks. I've had a few people say that it's way too soon for unexperience people, a few more say that it's inrealistically prosponed.

Heh heh, I kind of left something important out. The reason they get together at the begining of the book is because they're forced into an arranged marriage by their families. So, technically, they /are/ married.

Haha, yes, Abby J, I see that typo. I did mean "Postpone" lol. It was a silly mistake and I just didn't proof read before I posted. Silly English major.

no offense (honestly!) but it's not "inrealistically prosponed"...that's incorrect. it's "UNrealistically POSTponed"

If you're writing a book, you might wanna know....
As far as the sex thing, I can't help you there since it's different for everyone. I would say it's best to wait for marriage, but if you're writing a realistic novel about faithless teenagers, then anything goes! Given they knew eachother for so long, they're emotionally attached, so given the right conditions, it could be something that "just happened." That would be believable. Waiting a long time could equally be believable. Depends what you want your characters to be....whatever you write, I'm sure it'll fit the mold for SOMEONE out there so just write what you feel you want to express and promote (or not promote). Be responsible; this piece of writing, as any, will have your name on it forever.

He like me has a testosterone problem. These are available in powder and pill form. NO he doesnt need Viagra yet. A little exercise and these vitamins and he will be back on top again. If this does no good after 6 wks then theres no helping the guy. You tried. Sex therapy isnt gonna help because its just a vitamin problem.

It is different for everyone. But since this is fiction, do what you want. Since you mention a secret love, maybe have them break down very suddenly. You know, emotional time for one of them, things get out of hand, suddenly they're more than friends and not sure what to do about it. Say the girl's favorite uncle dies, the friend comes back to town after a few years not seeing each other for the funeral. She's upset and crying, she holds her. A sudden kiss, and oops, wake up next morning and it's too late to go back. Of course this complicates their relationship and leads to all manner of issues.

For me, it was about three months, very conservative background.

I'd stay a virgin for as long as you can. Your virginity is a very special thing. It aint something to just get rid of. But i would say about a year, or 2 maybe 3 lol Just wait till marriage lol

Depends how mature and close you are as a couple and able to accept and deal with teh consequences.

You can have the couples engage at various levels and show how their lives diverge from there.

a couple months if it's love, a couple minutes if it's lust. nothing will ruin a love affair quicker than uncommitted sex.
which is why most people are so screwed up . they have the sex before they have the love and ruin the process.

I'd give it at lease a month. In reality, I'd say first week or two, but for your book I'd want to draw it out.
