To contact them, I'd go on a vision quest/meditation. I'd begin by learning to meditate- in the fashion of visualizing an special place where you go to contemplate/pray/etc. This can be a cave, a hut/cabin, a meadow, etc. Once you are comfortable doing this, you can then begin to explore this place- your spirit guide(s) will make themselves known to you. Often they are in the form of animals, but can be people as well- an old woman/man is very common. You will find out their name(s) if you ask them- though in my experience they are a bit cagey about giving this information until after you've "known" them for a while. They will help you answer questions/make choices and guide you spiritually.

There are many ways... I think the best is begin a dream journal. Put a diary under your head during the night, when you have a dream, write it down. Write down all dreams, as most of them are nothing, or just memories, but some are really important, messages from your "Animus" (Fetch, Spirit Guide, Guardian Angel, etc) ... Then meditate every day for 10 -30 minutes. Your "spirit guide" will come to you. Don't go in with expectations of what it will look like... it's better this way. Mine is a large albino winged snake.
