You can try Claritin, which is less likely to make you sleepy - or a generic store-brand equivalent that contains loratadine. There are also some prescription antihistamines that your doctor could give you - Allegra, Zyrtec, Xyzal...or (if you have an allergic reaction to all of the above) you could visit an allergist and get allergy shots, which gradually desensitize your body's immune system to ragweed and mold, so over time they could relieve your symptoms. Allergy shots aren't a quick solution but in my case they worked very well. I had them for a few years as a kid (I had severe allergies that caused chronic sinusitis - I was sick all the time) and they cured me - for years. Unfortunately now I'm 30 and a couple of years ago, the allergies returned. But for somewhere between maybe 10-15+ years, I had no problems with allergies - that's a good record for what allergy shots can do for a person. Allergy shots don't work this well for everyone but they may at least give you relief from your symptoms while you have them (once you build up to injection with a maintenance dose), even if they don't cure you.

You could also try Zyrtec. Again, along the same class, so Im not sure if it would work.

But further more, you need to be getting rid of the mold source. I know that can be easier said than done if it is in your house, but breathing mold can lead to a host of other medical issues than just allergies.

Um, it might be the dye in the Benadryal, try dye-free. Which is better than regular, or try a generic, because sometimes its the preservatives, and flavorings. If that doesnt work, I suggest Flonase, Zyrtec, or singular. Zyrtec, makes the most difference, and I take all 3 plus Benadryal. I'd try mold-free paint if you are around it in your house. Otherwise try one or more of those medicines.

Ask your pharmacist. I can't take allegra---severely allergic to that. I take benedryl, as it is the only allergy medication I was able to take.

I use nasalcrom as well. It works on the MAST cells BEFORE they release histamine. It helps my asthma actually, as it helps keep my allergies in check.

CVS carries nasalcrom in a generic form, but, otherwise, it isn't the easiest thing to find. It is a pump nasal spray (looks like the zicam, but WAY different action), and about the same size. Walmart SOMETIMES has it as well.

Good luck to you.

Darn that sucks. Anyways you can ask an allergist, pulmonary doctor, or an ear, nose, throat doctor to prescribe you a nasal spray like rhinochort or nasonex and what it does it lowers the sensitivity of your nose. Hope that helps.
