Actually, I believe all the branches prefer their personnel be in uniform.

In basic, you'll not be "out in public" much... if at all. On graduation you'll have a little of what's called "boot liberty." You get off base to see family and friends... or whatever. But you never have to be more careful... probably in your life. You must be wearing your uniform properly. You can't get drunk... at least not noticeably. And you can't stay out over night. I can't remember when we had to be back... whether it was at lights out, or midnight. And you don't EVEN want to be a second late... so be about 20 minutes early. UA in boot camp on your first liberty is not a good way to start your military career. Just keep in mind that you're a soldier, and you are representing your country, the military, and your service. It's best to represent it the best way you can. Just "ok" isn't good enough.

After that it depends on your command. Some allow enlisted personnel to leave the base in civilian clothes. Others require that you leave and arrive in uniform.

As far as the US Army in 2007 is concerned:
You are authorized to wear your ACU's, Class A's off post as long as you wear them correctly, and you aren't going to a bar or strip club, or any other place whose main purpose is to sell or serve alcohol, or is otherwise shady/sketchy. If you go to a restaurant, and are of age, it is ok to have A drink with your DINNER, like will probably happen on Family Day at the end of basic. You are not allowed to get drunk in uniform though. You are also not allowed to go to political rallies, endorse political candidates, or make political statements in uniform.

Whatever unit you go to will put further guidelines out, such as the you aren't supposed to be off-post in uniform after a certain time unless you are going from post to your residence, or conducting military related duties.

It's not a stupid question. Your Drill Sergeants will explain all of this to you, and then some

Good luck in basic!

Yes and no. The army says u shouldnt wear your uniform in the public off duty to run errons. Not a big deal if you stop at the store on the way home. Most soldiers want to get out of uniform as soon as they get off work and get more comfortable. As long as u arent trying to gain anything from wearing it in public it shouldnt be a problem.

Wear of the Uniform is meant for when one is on duty. Some commands have strict policies regarding this, when you get to basic they will let you know what theirs is. One thing that is universal though is that the uniform cant be used as a prop in a private meeting or whatnot. (Like a political rally.) However wearing the Uniform, like the Class A, to a family get together is mostly OK.

your bdu's( battle dress uniform) you can wear it after duty hours only if your going to stop to put gas in your car. or if you need to go somewhere and it's on your way home. but you can't wear it at a bar etc. as far as your dress uniform you can wear to a wedding or reception things like that wear you want to look good. but it has to be in order and not looking bad or wore improperly! you represent the military when you wear it and the public looks at it and they expect it to look sharp. if you look sloppy they think we all are.
so don't wear it out on the town with your buddies picking up girls!!! and no not a stupid question. and by enlisting you are setting yourself apart from the rest. what you have decided to do is commendable

Yes we in the military are authorized to wear our uniforms in public (i.e. off post) as long as it doesn't bring discredit on the military. So we can't wear them to a hategroup rally, or while out getting so drunk we can't stand, or anything like that, but if your going to church you can wear your uniform (trust me families always appreciate it) or just traveling out, your good, but I'd advise against it as much as possible since with everything going on in the world today some libral may start throwing eggs at you.

It all depends on your commander. Most say that it is ok to wear your class A's and B's in public. ACU/BDU's they are a bit more touchy with, some will say you can and some will say you can't unless your just getting off shift and on your way home. Your drill sergeants will let you know the uniform policy.

Yes you are but you have to be in the complete uniform which means the boots and not tennis shoes for example. And if you are in uniform do not be drinking that can get you in some serious trouble off post. Hope that helps.

it is not a call for which you place on your defense force uniform to all public events. even with the incontrovertible fact that, i think of having him in his defense force uniform could seem VERY elegant (reckoning on what branch he's in. i'm no longer too loopy appropriate to the army formal outfits so whilst my cousin wore his to my commencement i assumed he regarded goofy, yet thats only my own opinion.) All of my family contributors and cousins are interior the defense force, so whilst my cousin have been given married his 2 brothers wore their Marine and army uniforms, and that i asked my Marine cousin to positioned on his gown blues to my wedding ceremony (for the reason that my huz is leaving for boot camp quickly). while you're a stickler for him no longer wearing his uniform, then only tell him to no longer. it relatively is actual that he will ill out somewhat extra. tell him which you in basic terms flat out do no longer desire him in his military uniform and if he says some thing like "I could, its a public experience" remind him that that's no longer a call for and you may desire if he dressed like the the remainder of the visitors/wedding ceremony occasion. for the reason that he's in severe college can no longer your mum and dad help with this? And approximately him no longer being allowed to positioned on the uniform for the reason that he's no longer "in" the defense force...while you're "in" sufficient to be allowed to have a uniform, you're "in" sufficient to positioned on it to a marriage, as long as he obeys the policies and wears the entire uniform, wiped sparkling and ironed to standards and would not positioned on something he has no longer earned, or something that's no longer his rank, and so forth. If he quite weren't interior the army (or ROTC), he would not have a uniform interior the 1st place.

soldiers can wear any uniform they want to in public except for a battle oriented uniform. for the navy, only the camis are not allowed, i dont know the exact regulations for the army, but your instructors at basic should tell you
