If you decide to go with a minimum wage job anywhere in the country you might be a bit disappointed. :)

I believe the minimum wage in Illinois is around $6.50 an hour which is higher then the federal minimum wage. Chicago is a great city but like any where else you need to have time and a little bit of money to enjoy it.

Depends on your background; I find that blue collar jobs here in chicago start from $8 - $10/hr... But the living costs here in chicago are quite high compared to the surrounding cities in the midwest. I think anyone would be able to start a good career here in chicago with the right experience and connections...

I've lived in and around the City my whole life and it is EXPENSIVE! If you don't mind living in a sh!t hole apartment, and working for min. wage go ahead. I make a very good living and I can't afford to live in Chicago City limits. Just this morning I saw a segment on unemployment on CNN, and Illinois has higher than average unemployment. On the bright side it's a World Class City, with dinning and night life second to none. If you plan to be a server, you'll find work. If your a professional good luck!

It's getting expensive to live here. You can find all types of jobs. The housing is about $600. 700.00 monthly for an apartment. depending on the neighborhood. Taking the bus or train costs $2.00 one way. Parking in a garage is very very expensive especially downtown.
