What are your goals for taking a martial arts class?

Hung-gar is the most physical of the styles you mentioned, where as Tai-Chi is the most stylistic/non-combative.

A 14 year old would not normally be taught internal arts.

There are growth issues that the moral Chinese teachers out there observe.

They normally would start a younger person with Shaolin to develop sinew strength and muscularity.

The internal would come later.

Some people out there would just take your money and give you what you want, instead of what is correct and balanced.

Do the Northern Shaolin. You will love it and have fun too.

Picking a martial art is like deciding your favorite color. It kind of picks you doesn't it?
many of the more informative answers are what you should listen to. the styles you listed are all great but they all take a long time to master. so if you are looking for something practical, then any of the Japanese or Korean arts are good: IE; Judo, Jujitsu, Hap-Ki-Do, Karate, Tae-Kwon-Do or Tang-Soo-Do.
If you still have your heart set on one of the styles you have listed, then go find an instructor in the Chinese martial arts most of them have a good grasp on many Chinese styles and can get you started in the direction you wish to go.
hope this helps.

Hey, Hans Arschlocher! It's a 14 yr old girl asking the question, you sarcastic b@stard! But you're obviously a moron to say that you just shoot people as your art.

As for what martial art to begin, you should be thinking more about substance, rather than what looks good. Judo would be an absolutely great choice, especially for a young lady. You'll learn to defend yourself with a very practical, combat proven system (and it looks pretty cool when you are able to toss someone up over your shoulder who is bigger than you!)

Good luck with whatever choice you make!

My personal favorite is Tae Kwon Do. It is a Korean martial art which is not only beautiful but also challenging. My children (a boy and a girl) both have Black Belts in Tae Kwon Do since they started studying it when they were very young. As a Mom, it makes me feel much better knowing that my children can defend themselves if they should ever need to do so. The added benefit of martial arts traing is that you will become very physically fit. It is great for cardio and strength training.

in my opinion for a 14 year old girl you most likely are small and would be fast not so much strong. SO i say bagua for you if you think you want to be an air bender that is:P personally i like hung gar and currently i am trying to form a drunkin hung gar style. If you do go with bagua then here are some vids to look at to decide i know it looks a little boring but the main point of the style is to get around your opponent without getting hit and hit them in certain presser points to take them down. But whatever you do decide to do make sure you stick with it and make every martial artist proud.

I would say if you can find a good Baguazhang teacher go with that.

The Bagua practitioners move circularly around their opponent to create openings for strikes so it doesn't require much force.

With women being more flexible than men and therefore able to be faster Baguazhang is an excellent choice.

Much as I think they are all good martial arts Baguazhang is not reliant on strength while incorporating striking and joint locks. It works against all systems including the more popular grappling arts.

Look around and check out the schools though. Better a good teacher with a not so good art than a great art with a bad teacher.

If you want something challenging and flashy, I'd suggest Shaolin kung fu. I reached black sash, and primarily trained in snake style.

For a 14 yr old girl, however, I'd lean more towards Aikido (I know -it's not in the cartoon, and not in your list)

Aikido tends to be less demanding physically, and allows the oportunity to learn defense, but also to learn about yourself as well. Most aikidoka tend to be a bit more introspective than your average karate person.

Wing Chun was invented by a woman and was also used to defeat a man, whom was forcing a lady to marry her. Story goes that if the girl could beat the guy in a fight, then she would be free to marry whoever she wanted, she won.

Baqua is also very good. It involves alot of circular movements and strikes.

So, you like Chinese martial arts. For a young lady such as yourself, I would reccomend Yim wing chung. It is a style that was developed by a woman ,and doesnt require much strength to use, and is fairly easy to learn.
