we are wanting my in laws to move from the country to melbourned northern suburbs and before we try and convince them we need to see if at least one of them will be able to get a job?

I had an uncle who was just over 60, gave up everything in Tassie and moved to a suburb outside of Melbourne. He bought a van and became a contracted courier driver, he loved it!
That may be an option, (being self employed) view the sites as you drive and work your own hours.
Is he a keen handyman / gardener - that also maybe another option.

There are laws in Australia preventing discrimination on the grounds of age but these are easily circumvented when it comes to employment. It is possible for older people to get jobs but he will have to expect many knock-backs. Self-employment is the most likely possibility.

i think it will be very difficult,maybe a part time job like retirees do
