I'm doing a research paper on why people started drinking.. was it peer pressure, for fun, to forget something, etc. And what reason do you still do it? For the taste, the effect, just because everyone else is doing it?

I started drinking when I was 16, at a party with some older friends and decided to give it a whirl. I drink today because I like the effects and makes certain situations with friends (and strangers) more fun.

I was 16 the very first time I drank. Usually the main reason why teens start to drink is that they'll look "cool" because that's what everyone else is doing. Other people drink because they actually think that the drinks taste good and they like the way the aftermath of alcohol makes them feel. I will have to say that the very first time I drank I loved the way the alcohol tasted.

I don't really have a reason that I started. My dad drank beer, and one day I asked if I could have one too. Then in my late teens, early 20's, it was all about partying. Now I drink because I like the flavor. I don't drink any of the piss-water american lagers made with rice anymore though. I homebrew what I want to drink, and I drink real beer, cider & wine. I don't care about ABV anymore, I care about the flavor and the craftsmanship of the drink.

I did it for fun and while socializing with family and friends and still do it for this reason also. Also after a hard days work or working out in the yard nothing better then a nice cold beer or 2.

I started drinking because a woman I found attractive talked me into it. I don't really drink any more, it just hasn't been enjoyable lately.

I started for fun, and that's why I still do it.
