definately! that can be a rigourous cardiovascular activity, which gets your heart pumping fast. Especially hill climbing. Go for it!

Unless you live at the base of a mountain, how often would you be planning on using the bike? The point is not to choose the most rugged type of activity; the point is to get regular physical activity.
Walking can be done anywhere, any time and if you want to beef it up, added some strength training. Instead of spending a ton of money on a bike (and hopefully some protective gear), why not just invest in a really good pedometer to track your training.
If you are interested in getting fit, walking will increase stamina and improve cardio vascular and respiratory systems.
The bottom line, don't choose an activity that will give you a built in excuse to ignore it.

I don't understand why you can ride a bike and not participate in other sports. Any regular exercise is good all around -- cardiovascular fitness, weight loss, mental clarity, etc -- the trick is doing it regularly and getting your heart rate up for at least 20 minutes.
You may also need to look at your eating habits. As you well know, obesity is rampant and we've managed to develop some pretty lousy habits and attitudes about food. It's just food, meant to fuel our bodies, not provide emotional sustenance. Good luck.

Yes. Doing an activity that requires a little work, like mountain biking is a great way to loose weight. When you use energy, your body burn fat.

It should help, just remember that you will be building muscle so your weight loss may not show right away (but you will look thinner). Also, stay away from junk food and fatty food. No point in exercising if you aren't going to eat healthy.

It is an excellent form of exercise to lose weight as long as it doesn't affect your asthma, and your toes can manage the pedals.........and it's fun!
