The recipe I am looking for is not the "puppy chow" or "muddy buddies" one. It more of a chocolate peanut cluster-sweet & salty and very addictive.

Mix all those with oil and marshmallows with a dash of vanilla. Or invent something yourself you recipe stealing monster of a human. I hope you get attacked by dogs on christmas. HAPPY TRAILS!

Yes you can make puppy chow without peanut butter, or any butter. The chocolate holds the sugar to the Chex, so it will still stick without any added butter. The peanut butter is there more for taste and unneeded fat and calories. I usually don't use it. By the way- try experiment with the chocolate- white, dark, or mint chocolate puppy chow is amazing. For melting- microwave is the fastest. But a pot on the stove works too.

I make mine using the 1 pound blocks of chocolate, available in nearly every grocery store.
Melt it and add chexs, peanuts and what every else I want; Some times, dehydrated cranberries and/or blueberries. spoon it out on a waxed sheet and let it harden. Easy.

Usually you find it on the back of the chex cereal box follow the recipe minus the powder sugar.

melt butter, coat the chex, bake @ 250 for 25 minutes, let cool completely. add semi-sweet chocolate morsels and peanuts, stir. mix in creamy peanut butter, stirring well. pour into muffin cups and sprinkle with powdered sugar.... oh wait. never mind.
