A DJ really is not something I think of when it comes to a 1st birthday party. It is not something that is age appropriate for a child so young, and is really for the parents. Throw a Christmas party for adults only and have a DJ. Then for your child's bday have some cake, open gifts, etc.

Why spend the money on a DJ that the kid is not going to remember. The first B-Day party is more for Mom and Dad then the kid. Plus if the music is loud it can hurt the kids hearing. Hearing damage is cumulative(meaning it gets worst with time and exposer). Play CDs(thats all the DJ's going to do anyway) and use the money to buy the kid a savings bond. And try not to keep up with the Jones when it come to money just be smarter.

My mother in law did the same thing with my son's first birthday party. It upset me that she would try to do that but that's what grandmother's do sometimes. She may not realize that this would bother u but instead think she's making easier for u. Whatever the case if it's that important to u make subtle comments like "i'm going to go get all the decorations today for the party or something similar to let her know that u plan on decorating or cooking or whatever n keep saying little things so she knows what this means to u. No it isn't wrong to just tell her straight out either cuz this is ur baby not hers n sometimes they forget that. She should respect u n understand, also by putting ur foot down now u'll avoid problems in the future. Trust me I know. Good luck!

looks to me like you want to "one up" on all the other childrens parties.
Honestly, you dont need a dj for a one year old.
I spent $15 on decorations for my daughters first birthday balloons streamers blow horns.... she was satisfied.
We had kids songs playing(sterio) and it turned into a bad thing, it made all the kids so stinking hyper we had to turn it off.
My daughter was so overwhelmed by her guests it was hard to focus her attention on opening presents or eating her cake.
Do you really want to add a DJ! to the mix for your son?
It would overwhelm him so bad i'm sure.

Maybe you can spend the money you'd use for a dj, on sweet little gifts for all the children who show up to the party? Put it in the bank for a rainy day. Redecorate your sons room in 6 months (he is no longer a baby after all and will start liking certain character)
Maybe you could spend that money on some great refreshments or even a full meal for your party guests....(sounds like you've already got that planned out by the sounds of wanting a stinking DJ!)

Above all..... show all those people who had DJs for their children, that you dont HAVE to go all out to throw a fantastic party.

keep it simple go nuts when he is older :)

Why the hell would you pay money for a DJ at a 12 month old's birthday party?

What a waste of money. WHy not just play a cd and focus on spending time with family and friends and doing the stuff babies are interested in more anyway. Put the DJ money in a savings account or a CD account.

I can't imagine why you would want a DJ for a one year old's birthday party. I agree with the above poster..it seems like this is more for you than your child. A one year old is still just a baby and loud music (noise) will just scare him and probably damage his hearing. This sounds like nothing more than an extravagant way to show off to your family and friends. Take the money and put it into a savings account.

He is one, I don't think the DJ is for the baby is it? I mean really, do you need a DJ to play Barney songs? I agree with your husband, though for different reasons. I would not have a DJ. Like I said...the DJ is for mom, not baby right?

Why do you need a DJ? Just play some music, it's less expensive, and you'll have a better time without stressing over the DJ.

The DJ will probably just scare the kid and is I suspect more for you than him.

All that for a child's birthday party. You must live a very privileged life.

save the dj for the teen years seriously. the child wont know whats going on. he will cry or sleep. just have a small party with the close family and friend so you dont overwhelm your poor baby
