I opened up a victorias secret credit card and the clerk wrote down "Ct." instead of "Avenue" so I didn't receive my statement for two months. In August, the World Financial Network called me and told me I had two months of late fees due. I told them that it was their mistake with my address and therefore I was going to pay the purchase price but that I would not pay the late fees. The collections rep said the balance would be zeroed out and I also asked to have the account closed. They called me back in September to say I still had late fees!!! I went through the whole explanation again and was told that they were sorry and that it would be taken care of. Today, December 8th, they called again to say I have over $80 in late fees to pay!! I explained the whole situation and now they are saying that there is no record of anyone stating my late fees would be removed and that I HAVE TO PAY them. What do I do??? This is killing my credit. Someone please help me???

Actually I never received the card, and today, (Dec 10, 2007) was the first time I got a statement. And sorry for my poor choice of words, the clerk at the store never "wrote" down my incorrect address, because she called it in. Nothing was ever given to me to check my address. The only thing I signed at the store was my receipt. No address on it. I've been a credit card user for over 15 years and I've never had a problem. This is a new one for me. As for not noticing that I didn't get the statement over the summer...well, I don't have the luxury of sitting around monitoring all my mail. I'm a full time student and am barely home. The purchase I made wasn't even for me. It was for a family member so it's not like I was walking around parading the merchandise. The most pathetic part is that the purchase was for less than $50. I've got late fees totalling over $80. If they told me they were going to remove the fees, why didn't they? Someone there goofed up.

You should not have told them to close the account until after you had a statement showing a 0 balance. You aren't a customer anymore and they have no incentive to forgive the late fees.

Technically, you owe those late fees. Not getting a statement because of a bad address is no excuse. You should have double checked the application when you signed it. Also, you knew you had charges on that account. When you didn't get a statement, you should have been calling someone to find out why.

Pay the late fees and be done with it. The longer you wait the worse for your credit. You continue to rack up late fees and your credit report will show yet another month past due.

Call them, and ask to talk to a supervisor. If the address is bad, how did you receive the card, but not the bill?
