Make it a habit to take your child for walks instead of driving everywhere. Set an example by taking the child swimming, bike riding, playing ball (not necessarily Little League -- you can play catch or touch football in your yard or at the park). If you are an active person, your child will pick up on that, and model the behavior.

Any activity is exercise. Get them away from the tv and give them chores, teach them to build a fort, go camping, go to the zoo,Go to Disneyland. Watch Little People Big World. This family is constantly playing, working on the farm and building things and eveyone is in good shape, even the dad who is the most handicapped of the whole family.

find fun activities that increase their activity levels, parks, a soccer ball and mom or dad or sibs equal a lot of fun, family involvement and also gets us olders excercising-everyone wins. kids that sit in front of the tv or video game all day usually dont have friends who like activity. start them in activities at your y or community centre so they are around other active kids--birds of a feather !!!!!!!!!!!!!
