No earlier than 6 months if possible. Some dogs have trouble losing a couple of baby teeth. The teeth need to be removed while the dog is under anesthesia. Since anesthesia is a little hard on the dog and since it's a little expensive, it's best to remove the teeth and neuter the dog at the same time. Most vets will check to see if all of the dog's baby teeth have fallen out before scheduling the neutering procedure. This usually occurs by 6 months, but not always.
Of course, they are instances in which the neutering has to be sooner.

Neutering can be performed at any age over age 8 weeks provided both testicles have descended. Dogs neutered before puberty (generally age 6 months) tend to grow a bit bigger than dogs neutered after puberty (testosterone is involved in the causing bones to stop growing so without testosterone the bones stop growing later). The same behavior and prostate health benefits can be realized no matter what age the dog is. (In other words, a dog does not become "too old" to obtain the same health and behavioral benefits of neutering.)
The traditional age for neutering is around 6 months of age and many veterinarians still recommend neutering at this age.

A puppy and the mom whould have been wormed by the breeder using what they got form the vet NOT over teh counter at 2,4,6,and 8 weeks old.
Teh breeder should have gotten the first vaccine done before teh pup went to a new home. My vet does my pups at 6,9 and 12 weeks old. They go to new homes between 8 and 10 weeks old.
They should be neutered at 5-6 months old.

I wouldn't get the dog fixed that early. The dogs need hormones for proper closer of the growth plates. Talk to your vet about this and see what he recommends for the breed of dog you have.
