The difference between the Old testament and the New testament is that:
The Old testament talks about God and his great power before Jesus Christ and is based on how man was saved by law. meaning priest would have to sacrifice an animal so that God may forgive the sin of his people. It also talks about God's great messengers (like Noah, Daniel and others) and how everything got prepared for the coming of Jesus Christ. It basically shows you how things came to be (How God created the world, how we came to speak many languages, How the commandments came to be and so on........). The Old testament is more like a History where we get to know to power of God and we can take the examples from the great followers of God (that show us what true faith is all about) and add them to our every day life.
The New testament talks about the Live of Jesus Christ our Savior (with the examples he mad and teachings) and about Gods great power after Jesus Christ and is based on how man is saved now by grace (God's grace). Meaning there is no need for any more sacrifise for all we need to do is go straight to God and he will forgive our sins. It talks about the Apostols of Jesus Christ and their lives and How they as brave and true followers of God spread God's word throught the nation and the great faith they had. The new testemant is mostly for us (the people of today) and it shows us how we should live our lives and it prepares the way for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Hopes this helps God bless:)

The Old Testament lays the foundation for the teachings and events found in the New Testament. The Bible is a progressive revelation. If you skip the first half of any good book and try to finish it, you will have a hard time understanding the characters, the plot, and the ending. In the same way, the New Testament is only completely understood when it is seen as a fulfillment of the events, characters, laws, sacrificial system, covenants, and promises of the Old Testament.

The New Covenant....before the scarifices of Jesus Christ
of the New testament, animals were used as intruments
of sacrifice. Instead of Lambs' Blood on the lintels to
secure a 'passover of the Angel of Death' as in the Days
of Moses and the Old Testament...the New Testament
brings protection by the precious blood of Jesus and
therefore animal sacrifices are not necessary. By this
sacrifice, Jesus allows ALL to be Grafted into the
Tree of Life and their names be written in The Lambs Book
of Life...anyone, anywhere that confesses with their
tongue and believes in their heart that Jesus is Lord will
be saved...this is The True Message of the New Testament.

The New Testament was built on better promises. God found fault with the Old Testament, because He found fault with people, relying too much on what man would do.
The Old Testament was a tutor to bring us to Christ, the Suffering Servant and Future Ruler Messiah.
I'm sorry, I don't have the Bible reference, but it's in the New Testament.

One concentrates on Jehovah God's relationship with Israel.
The other concentrates on teaching how Jesus' ransom sacrifice opens the way for everyone to have a relationship with Jehovah.
Both though are needed for a complete understanding of God's purposes.
For example, the Old Testament shows why we needed the ransom. The New Testament shows how the ransom was paid. One without the other does not give the entire story. That is why 2 Timothy 3:16,17 says;
"ALL Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work."

The New Testament is in the Old Testament "concealed", while the Old Testament is in the New Testament "revealed". That is, the whole of Scripture was pointing to how God was going to redeem mankind from the fall into sin that started in the Garden of Eden, but it wasn't until the coming of the Messiah, Jesus-Emmanuel, and the giving of the Holy Spirit, that things in the Old Testament which were "types" and "shadows" of the Christ to come were revealed.
Colossians 2:8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.
13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.
Hebrews 10:11 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet.
14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. 15 And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, 16 "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds," 17 then he adds, "I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more." 18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.
Jeremiah 31:31 "Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, 32 not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the LORD. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 34 And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more."

There is no difference, the whole of the Bible is a Jewish
History. If we choose to accept a Jewish Messiah, we are
grafted into Israel, like Ruth who said: Your God is my God &
your people are my people.
