The Charismatic movement is a cornerstone in bringing the daughters of the whore religious system back to to mother. This is a very dangerous organization of church groups and should not be participated in. The 'Pentecostal' churches vary dramatically from church to church. Most of them are full of false spirits or liars. But, there are a few that keep order within the services and have their doctrines close to elements of the truth, though few and far between. Be careful in them. Lots of strange stuff in them places. Ask how many of them have ever keep the feast of Pentecost...

I spent twenty years in a Pentecostal church (Church of God - TN), and am honestly glad to be out. I think each person has to find a church that is a good fit for them, and this church was just not right. However, when you grow up with something, it can be hard to get away. The thing with Pentecostals is that they believe the Holy Spirit will always manifest itself in a person via speaking in tongues. Both the Assembly of God and Church of God stipulate that the Holy Spirit is evidenced in a person's life via speaking in tongues. This, of course, leads to the "controversy" of loud services, because people often speak in such tongues, interpret, sing loudly, have more updated (and often more modern) music, etc. My problem is that tongues is a gift given to some, and the Bible clearly states to refrain from doing it in the presence of non-believers, because they'll think you're mad. Doesn't quite match their doctrine, right?
However, being in a dead church isn't necessarily the best, either. Churches that are so tied into pomp and circumstance (many Catholics, Methodists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, etc.) that they forget to let God into the service. So, that's my advice: seek a church that is not about "Church" and not about "Whose gift is the greatest" but one where the faith is sincere, the people are humans trying their best and the preacher never strays from the Bible! I found this in a nice southern Baptist church, and have never been happier.

Hi I would not tell any one to avoid the Pentecostal church or a Baptist church. I would say go. I love the choirs in these Church's and the sermons at times can be good you won't fall asleep. I am not a christian I have been to many different types of religious services and the Baptist and Pentecostal are some of the best Christian services. I have been to Lutheran services, Catholic , Methodist and some other non-denominational Church's as well as non-christian religious services. But for the energy and music alone you can't beat the Baptist and Pentecostal go to different services find out for your self. We have freedom of choice use it don't listen to people that never been and want to give negative vibes.

Go wherever you feel comfortable, whether that be a Pentecostal church or an Anglican church. What really matters is how you worship God, not where.
I attend an Anglican church fairly regularly, and although I don't agree with everything they do, it can be a little ritualistic at times, I still enjoy the fellowship of other believers. That's the main reason I go there.

I cannot advise you not to go its church because the Pentecostal church is Christian. It's form of worship is highly proactive compared to other churches. Even though, I committed my life to Christ through the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement when their was a huge revival in the San Gabriel Valley. I am a member of a Congregational Church where the worship is not so charged.
Many Christians in the main line churches, do not understand the gifts of the spirit and and the Pentacostal's style of worship, What they don't know or not understand puts fear in their hearts. That's why in the Bible it does say "Test the sprit, whether it be of God."

I would advise you to be very careful about those types of churches. You have to remember that every congregation is different and it isn't wise to paint sects of Christianity with too wide of a brush, so some of those congregations might be fine.
But if they over emphasize the Spirit whom Jesus said would glofify Him (Jesus), if they don't preach about victory over sin and personal holiness, if they talk a lot about "signs and wonders and miraculous gifts" and have a lot of praise and singing, but they neglect the meat of the Word of God, and if their services are disorderly where people are speaking out in tongues without an interpretation, then you should look for another place to worship. There may be a different "spirit" at work in that assembly.
Usually the Baptist churches in England are good or the Free Presbyterian ones.
1 Corinthians 14:26 What then shall we say, brothers? When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.
27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two or at the most three should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. 28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and God.
29 Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. 30 And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop.
31 For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. 32 The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. 33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the congregations of the saints,

The Bible warns us to be cautious...may will come claiming to be The Risen One. We are easily fooled and led astray...that is what started our problems in the beginning. Therefore, we are warned to stay out of false churches; however, if we fail in discerning where we are supposed to be, The Bible also tells us that we will be called out of the false churches prior to onset of The Tribulation. Jesus was not a very charismatic example of a spiritual leader. He was simple, unpretentious. He may have performed miracles, but they weren't for the sake of attacting the crowds...these miracles were done out of compassion...He even asked folks not to make a big deal out of it...your child is healed...wake up, Lazarus...pass these baskets around so these folks can eat...simple...easy...unpretentious. He didn't jump around speaking in tongues no one else understood...the miracle of the Pentacost was that the tongues were understood by others (it gave the early Christians the ability to spread the new of God's promise to the nations of the world...not just other Jews). So, speaking in unknown tongues, snake handling (we are told don't test God), epileptic seizures brought on by the some kind of emotional frenzy...such things make us wonder what force is at work. God can do anything, but He usually opts for the slight of hand, "You know it was Me that did that" type thing. He always goes for the simple folks...the least of us. The theatrics of some churches violate that attribute of God.

I was raised in a Pentecostal church, but the church I go to now is not Pentecostal. I have observed that Pentecostal/charismatic services are more emotional and rely less on teaching from the Bible. This does not appeal to me. I do, however, think that speaking in tongues and the other gifts of the spirit are still active today. Paul said "I thank my God I speak in tongues more than you all." and "Forbid not to speak in tongues."
You mentioned that you are not a "born again Christian." It was Jesus himself who said "You must be born again."

Go ahead and visit if you want, investigate other churches to find out what they believe.......there's more to a church than the way they behave in the service. I would like to invite you to a Baptist church, preferably a medium to large size (some of the smaller ones kind of go nuts sometimes, too) and find out what we believe. Usually, the services follow traditional lines, but the service is sometimes altered to include more charismatic or spontaneous behavior(depends on the local church). Our main goal is to lead others to a personal knowledge and relationship with Jesus Christ. The best guide you have is your Bible. Begin to study and meditate on the Word and the Lord will lead you where you will be content. God bless you.
