Well I have 5 month old Golden pup here too and I too was wondering how he would react to the tree. He sniffed it and then ignored it. if your careful and supervise the pup when he is in the room with the tree then he will learn to not go near it. Also you have to be very care about the water in the base of the tree especially if you put a additive in the water to keep the tree alive longer. It is toxic to dogs and cats too. Also watch where the cords are too. OK

You can put up a small barrier in front of the tree too so the pup cant get near the tree.

This year have a small tree up on a table, either real or artificial, it's up to you.
A real tree isn't so bad to chew on, but the ornaments, tinsel, chemicals can be extremely harmful and cause an expensive trip to the vet.
Also he could pull the whole tree down.

If you want a regular large tree on the floor, get an X-pen (from a pet store or catalog) and surround the tree with it.

Beagles are known for eating everything in sight. Be careful what you leave around!
Good luck and happy holidays with your new cutie.

I'm not sure if a tree would hurt him if he ate it, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Of course, you can get a real tree, but if you're worried about your puppy eating it, then you can put a baby gates up around it or only let him in that room when you can watch him. Beagles aren't very big, so if you just put a play pen around it, he shouldn't be able to jump over it and will be safe.

I would be a lot more worried about your pup eating ornaments, tinself, candy canes, etc. off the tree.
One year I put real gingerbread hearts on my tree and they kept disapperaing - guess who??

Why don't you get a small tree this year, which is what I did last year (a real one can be planted or left on the deck afterwards) and put doggie ornaments on it and put it on a table where the puppy can't reach? I put a doggy Santa had on top, wired small rawhide bones, christmas collars, doggie ornaments on it and it looked marvelous.
Also ran wide christmas ribbon up and down it - it was really cute, everyone admired it.

No way to keep your puppy away from a tree on the floor, live or fake, unless you monitor or confine him every second - he will definitely piddle on it too - my older dogs always think it is marvelous that mommy brought a potty inside for them, can't really blame them.

Put the tree up this year - will be pretty anyway if you decorate it right.

I'm a christmas tree farmer and it really won't hurt him if he chews on the branches. of course it depends on what kind of tree you are getting. your best shot would be to get a fraser or canaan fir tree because the needles are short and are not prickly. you should definately get a tree from a choose and cut christmas tree farm. they hold their needles longer and look better to so it's fresh. you could also get a white pine tree for their needles are soft too. if all else fails then get a bunch of things to put under the tree so it can't reach it(such as gifts) I hope this helps. Merry Christmas!

you shouldn't put additives in the water anyway because they don't do anything. REMEMBER! cut an inch off the butt of the tree right before you put it in the stand. once in the stand pour the hottest tap water from your sink in the bowl. this will get the sap in the tree moving because tree sap is just like syrup it comes off a plate a lot easier with hot water than cold. Merry Christmas!(again)

No, I would go for a real tree if your afraid he'll eat it! An artificial one may be a lot more harmful.

Supervise him all the time and MAKE SURE he has soft toys, chewy toys and hard toys to chew on! This should solve the problem of him chewing things he's not supposed to. When he does, give him one of his toys to chew instead.

Please be so careful if you have lights or anything electric on the tree, make sure he cannot reach them or the wires coming from the tree.

Remember, the pup is teething and he needs to chew things so hopefully toys will do the trick, and he will grow out of it!

Good luck!

if he eats everything, fake, but i got a real one when i got my puppy an 'yelled' at her when she went near it, and now she always drinks out of the base & so i cant put any chemicals/bad things to keep the tree looking good longer w/o hurting her!
