Nothing to do with the rat that tried to tunnel its way in to my compost heap then? Which we caught and ate.

Change your diet. eat less rat.
Rat in a dream in western culture usually means something negative. Whats bugging you mole that you are not confronting?
I don't think you need help. Than I don't think I need help either. Others would debate that.
Think happy before going to sleep Mole.

Rats sometimes have to do with negative issues you have not dealt with in your life. The fact that it is large represents that it is a fairly large issue. It is caged means that it seems under control for now. It is asleep so it is not causing you any problems right now, but it is still there.
2 little grey bunnies could symbolize that this issue could begin to rapidly mutliply in the near future if not addressed.
So the dream is sort of a warning dream that you really need to deal with this issue soon.

I just read the part about the cage door being open! So that would add a sense of urgency to not leave this too long.

To see a rat in your dream indicates that you are having feelings of doubts, guilt, and or, envy. You may have unworthy thoughts that you are keeping to yourself but are eating at you. Alternatively it denotes repulsion, it may also be a pun on someone who is a rat. To see a rabbit denotes luck a favorable turn of events. Alternatively it is indicative of your sexual activity. The cage indicates that you could be feeling constrained in a current relationship. The door is open so any or all of these feelings could easily come out. It would seem to suggest that you should let the rabbits out but, keep the rat caged.

Rats usually symbolize an enemy or someone working against you. You have to interpret a dream for yourself - since you had pet rats, they may have a different meaning to you. How do you feel about them in your dream? Are you happy to see them, afraid of them? You mention the guilt that you feel - Is there something or someone in your life you may be neglecting? And as for being in your old house, we often dream of the house we grew up in as home.

Someone or something (and not necessarily you) needs to go out and experience the world, the rat could be anybody you know (or you) and the rabbits could be the people convincing you to go (or you could be the "convincer"). As for the contacts in the compost bin...uh...no clue.

No you do not! You need to think self what this means to you! For the another person it can be a very different thing! You can be blamed or etc. Do not ask others what does your dream mean! It is more personal than almost anything! You have to solve that self. Ask yourself what do you think of that. You can have more problems letting others solve and believing what they say! Your dream is your dream! Others have their. :) This is important!

I have this same dream. In my dream, the rat's name is Peter. It's a lazy buzzard that neglects the garden and lets the biscuits dry out. If I forget the cheese, it hisses at me...

The mysteries of the human mind are hard enough to study, so I can't imagine what goes on in the mind of a Mole.
