By OLYMPIC definition a PRO is someone who performs for money. So anyone irregardless of method could become a pro.

What does affiliation with the WKF get you except the privalege of paying dues.In KARATE it is best to avoid all association entanglements and their politics .
As for which style will make you more disciplined and strong I would pick SHOTOKAN.BIG DRAWBACK FOR BOTH IS TO HEAVY AN EMPHASIS ON SPORT.

Being a professional martial artist is something that does not come easily; that applies whether we are talking about fighting or having your own studio and just teaching. Both require a great deal of time, dedication, sacrifice, and effort and I always recommend that my students stay in school and go the education route first and then later they will have time, money and the resources to follow some of their dreams.

One of my students, who is now my business partner did just that. He was on his way to becoming one of the top tournament fighters in the country when he was eighteen. He decided to go into boxing, did the Gold Gloves and was a twice Gold Glove Champion and then went into kickboxing where he quickly established himself also. All during this time he pressed on into college and that was the dominate thing that I always emphasized during his training and fighting. He has now since graduated, has his masters and PHD and makes five times the money I make.

There is no right answer here and I went a different route and while doing martial arts served thirty-four years with the military so I have a pension and retirement. I only offer this as food for thought and consider your choices carefully and think in terms of intermediate and long term as well as short term and you may be able to do both. Good luck!
