1. Children do not (and often cannot) differentiate between fiction and reality.

2. Many adults who should know better but were too lazy to take the time to investigate between fiction and reality very often accept the Hollywood version, e.g. the Scopes Trial.

What I do know (and which you have conveniently ignored), is that the best way to change a norm or more is to get at the children. In 25 years, societal outlook will be drastically changed. Consider the historical evidence in just two area: firstly, sexual promiscuity; followed by the acceptance of homosexuality. How well were either of these accepted and openly promoted before WW2?

This movie will influence millions of children and adults against Christianity. It will not affect my belief system one iota.
The author is entitled to write whatever he likes and to make huge financial benefits from the film, 'The Golden Compass'. But what does it say about Mr Pullman who has said of his novels: "I'm trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief"?

He told an Australian newspaper, "I've been surprised by how little criticism I've got. Harry Potter's been taking all the flak. I'm a great fan of J. K. Rowling, but the people mainly from America's Bible Belt who complain that Harry Potter promotes Satanism or witchcraft obviously haven't got enough in their lives. Meanwhile, I've been flying under the radar, saying things that are far more subversive than anything poor old Harry has said. My books are about killing God."

Elsewhere he has said: "...if there is a God and he is as the Christians describe him, then he deserves to be put down and rebelled against. As you look back over the history of the Christian church, it's a record of terrible infamy and cruelty and persecution and tyranny. How they have the [swear word] nerve to go on Thought for the Day and tell us all to be good when, given the slightest chance, they'd be hanging the rest of us and flogging the homosexuals and persecuting the witches."

No, they would not, but God is not to be mocked. I wouldn't want to be in Mr Pullman's shoes on the Day of Judgment.

Bible says: Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45
True Christians beliefs are so strong they can choose not to love the things that the world loves. We are no longer under the slavery of sin. We choose not to watch what is not able to give God any glory. If a kids movie does not give God any glory then why watch it? All of our joy and happiness is in Christ Jesus.

Despite being onside with the most powerful entity in the universe, some people seem to be afraid of a lot of stuff! So much for gaining strength from the almighty, when a child's film is too risky to watch! Maybe "satan" is the more powerful of the two afterall.

Its not the belief system thats the problem, its all the children
& people who have no belief system that we are trying to protect. At least believers can explain to their children the
dangers of the movie, but that does not mean they should
watch the movie & allow it to influence their impressionable
minds.

It can "withstand" a children's movie.
Some people jsut disagree with it.

Well, I am not boycotting the movie, but these people are worried about their children's faith, not theirs.

No child has a completely developed belief system, and they are easily impressionable.

I thought everyone knew that. I guess I was mistaken.

The movie is a work of fiction, doesn't effect my beliefs at all.

don't generalize ; I watched the matrix but I am not plugged into it ; there is so much in society that you have to choose for yourself; the Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie; key word , MOVIE , don't pool all people into one; the actions of some are not the actions of all
