Usually we refer to him at "the Pope", not just "Pope".

The pope is a very learned man and I believe he is very sincere as are the people that elected him to that position. I mean no disrespect here but will state a viewpoint. Protestants, do not feel that the office of the Keys and the leadership of the early Church was given to Peter exclusively, as the Roman Catholic church does. Protestants generally feel that all Christians are part of the priesthood per 1 Peter 2:9. Also, St. Paul even corrected Peter in Galatians 2:11.
Catholics draw from Matt. 16:13-20 and feel that Peter was set as head of the church. Protestants say it was his confession of Jesus as the Christ that is the foundation of the church and upon what it is built. Also, in John 20:22 all the apostles were given authority to lose and bind sins. So the debate goes on.
There are also beliefs that the Roman Catholic Church has put out, that protestants say is contrary to the Bible. Of course, Catholics say the protestants are wrong. Many who opposed the Catholic Church were killed throughout history.
Those are some of the reasons.
If you wish to really do some studying on the matter, do a search for the Apology of the Augsburg Confession. It is a Lutheran defense of their views based on Scripture and a answer to the Catholic Confutation of the late 1500s. It addresses issues that were the birth of the Reformation.
You could also look for shorter articles at www.lcms.org
Let me say that we are to bear witness to the truth, but must do it respectfully and in a loving manner.(1 Peter 3:15)
I hope this helped and God bless.

Well, because the Catholic church was the first Christian church and all other Christian churches came from that church. So.............many Christians believe that they are right and the church is wrong on many points in the Bible. That way they justify their churches position.
I am not a Catholic but believe that the Pope is the leader of all Christians. Simple Bible translations do not make the Pope wrong or any other Christians right. The Pope in my view is no different then Billy Graham or any other Christian leader. I have the same respect for Billy Graham, btw.

Roman catholic church appeals to authority of church hierarchy and historical practices. Protestants tend to have a history of protesting such authority, and encouraged more towards individualism or obedience to isolated church leaders as opposed to centralized hierarchies.
The Pope is seen as the epitome of authoritarian power dissemination.
The Pope is (theoretically) the man with the power to change the practices of the Catholic church. E.g. to abolish overpopulation related poverty, or feed the hungry with money spent on nice church buildings.
There are other reasons related to differences in belief but I feel these are secondary issues.

AntiCatholicism is a well -established,centuries-old bigotry in Britain and its former colonies and a founding phobia(Romaphobia)of Anglo-America(along with racism and xenophobia ,illogical or inordinate fear of foriegners). %00 years ago suspicion of the intentions of "the Catholic Powers" of Europe was unfortunately well based as was the Catholic suspicion of the"Protestant Powers",but Vatican II and the actions of the vatican since 1960 should have banished all that hatred but for those invested in bigotries change is very difficult.
Some non Catholics, anti catholics and Post Catholics hate HH Pope Ben 16 because he is not "progressivist' and is an upholder of traditional Catholicism and Catholic doctrines and morality. Of course, most antiCatholics hate Catholics for being Catholic no matter what we do.
If a Christian of whatever sect or group disa grees with the Pope ,then he or she should pray for him and love him as Jesus taught us to do.
Do to others what you would have them do to you.Treat others the way you want to be treated.
