Sometimes I see pixelation when watching fast pace sporting events on the tv and I'm curious if I should switch it to a different mode. Also, I want the best picture that I can get and if I'm not viewing my television at it's optimal performance then I would like to have an idea of how to maximize it's potential.

1080i, without getting overly technical it's a higher resolution. If your TV is set up for both you may get more life out of it in 720p though.

I would definitely go with 1080i. My TV is in 1080i (ALL 1080i tvs can perform picture resolutions at lower qualities such as 720p). It is much better for sports as well. I noticed that sports in 720p are worse because it does blur and pixelate more slightly. To be technical about it, 1080 has twice the framerate of 720p.
