First of all, save the answers about coal tar, Scalpicin, tea tree oil or whatever. I've tried it all. I'm desperate. It's not lice because I had that as a child, and I remember the little white lice all in my hair. I don't have that. It's just my scalp has sores, and it itches so bad it's making me want to scream. I've looked up remedies online and in library books, and none of them have helped. The latest was rinsing it with apple cider vinegar in the shower to get rid of all the shampoo. I've used all the shampoos for scalp problems, including Denerex and T-gel. Does anyone know of anything else? And if not, would it be stupid to go to the doctor for something like this? I don't know what else they could prescribe besides those things that I've already tried.
P.S. I also have bad allergies, and I've had a lot of problems with my skin itching all over.

First of all, you're not stupid. Your skin is the largest major organ in your body. Your scalp is part of your skin. I've been in your position and actually had bald spots for quite a while because I scratched so much I lost my hair. It sounds as though you might have a fungal infection which is not nearly as gross as it sounds. DO NOT PUT HYDROGEN PEROXIDE ON YOUR SCALP no matter what anyone tells you. You will eventually lose your hair in those spots. You need to go to a dermatologist. You have very sensative skin and your scalp is just part of that. You're right not one of the over-the-counter products will do much. To relieve the itching temporarily you want to dab WHITE vinegar on a cotton ball and dab it on the spots. Mostly this will dry up any oozing and act as a sort of astrigent. It's not a fix, it will burn if the sores are open, but it will give some temporary relief. Because you have a history with itching and allergies, it may be possible that you are allergic to a shampoo or hair gel, but I'm not betting that's what it is. It sounds like there might be a fugus amoung us and you need to get to a dermatologist. Also you need to be aware that there are many things like street drugs, stress, hair dyes and other gremlins that can cause severe scalp itching. Here's hoping you're staying away from those things. The dermatologist may offer something called Hydroxizine (spelling?) which is an antihistamine with a mild tranquilizer to help you get some sleep and heal. It's cheap and generic. Walmart has it on their $4 prescription program. Avoid hats and if you have old hats, sweatbands or anything of that sort you will need to toss them to avoid reinfecting your scalp. Good luck my dear and yes, there are many others out there who have been in the same boat and now have a healthy scalp with shiny hair and clear skin. The dermatologist can help!

That happened with me too. I used everything, even prescription shampoo, never worked. Then, for some reason, around when I turned 25 it just stopped. I don't even know what I did. (I think it started when I was around 10)
