Inever used to be i always felt safe, but now with terrorist threats, and i believe that the police are a waste of time, never there when they are needed, and the politicians cant be trusted. Apart from my own family there is no-one, and as i am the eldest the responsibility stops here. Only God can help now i think.

I also live in England, and i realise the police are under pressure, they just seem to be only interested in fining the motorists, which is very profitable unlike catching the real criminals, I am not depressed about it, not expecting miracles, just wishing that i felt i could trust people in the same way that i used too

The only reason that you feel like this is the perceived danger around you. We will always have to keep ourselves safe in life and that ranges from slipping on a wet pavement to reporting suspicious and abandoned bags. In reality, life has many hazards around us and we just need to be sensible and vigilant. But not to the point where you are afraid to go out and enjoy your day. There will always be an element of people that will always present a risk to others and you simply have to rise above that. You cannot put your family in cotton wool but you can make sure they are aware of the dangers and do everything they can to keep themsleves individually safe. The police are not a waste of time, they are simply overwhelmed with modern pressures as well. No one is going to wave a magic wand and give us that 100% blanket of security ..... we are all responsible for that as individuals and citizens. You should really start to smile again about the good things in life, accept that no individual can accept responsibility for everyone else and make your life secure and happy as possible. No one could ask or wish for more. Good luck ................

I don't know that it's fear, so much as just desperation and laziness. RioThan, You sound like you may have a point, but nobody is saying that your present situation is making you a better candidate for being an illegal citizen in America. I don't care how much your pants cost, if you have DSL, or how many mexicans have AIDS compared to Americans. You can keep you networked, AIDS free, rich, healthy *** south of the Mexican/American border. It's that plain and simple. Find a job down there. Cut some grass, chop a tree, wear cowboy boots and listen to your carnival music down there. You are a problem in my country.

You can't be completely safe anywhere.
Just yesterday was the anniversary of a terrible eathquake in my place, which lives of more then 25.000 people.

On the other hand, yes, I would say I feel relatively safe. At least, I'm not afraid of terrorist threats or something.
That's the good thing of not being a global power, see.

Sounds like you live in a town/city. I will be moving back to a rural community soon, I will feel very much safe and content. If I knew I would be spending the rest of my life in a large town/city, I would kill myself. ( I am not joking!)

No, I am not afraid to live in Australia. I live in a smaller town and we don't have too much crime, let alone terrorists. I would never live in a big city, because I think big cities draw that type of danger. Also I would never live in USA. I think that is the most dangerous country to live in.

No, and I'm not afraid in yours either. Of course, I'm not really afraid anywhere.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; because I'm the meanest S.O.B. in the valley.
